  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DPX from Premiere workflow

Load the Premiere project in AE, then export as DPX. Or export directly as CineForm 444 from Premiere, and we have a tool that converts AVIs to DPX much faster than AE.

For the first part I would need dynamic link right? I bought AfterFX and Premiere seperate from one another. I am using AfterFX 7.0 Pro and Premiere CS3.

With regards to the tool... sounds great. Is this the same tool that is currently on hold for converting .R3D's to CFHD AVI's..??

No on both counts. AE will load a Premiere project with using Dynamic Link. The CineForm to DPX convertor is not on hold and ships as part of today's tools.

Okay I opened a PPROJ file in AE7 and it works, I feel dumb now as I have never tried that.

I found the CF2DPX -- Convert CineForm to DPX tool. As you state above I can export directly as CineForm 444 from Premiere and the conversion will be the same quality as using any other system or workflow like FCP or AVID, or Assimilate or whatever NLE/DI tool?

Thanks for putting up with my questions. :waaa:

Flatten to a single CineForm 444 (in the export settings) master AVI, use Filmscan 1 or 2 (for the extra quality paranoid.) It is very handy to have a playable master to generate your DPX frames from, so you can check your production before committing to a DPX export (which you will unlike be able to play.)

Last I checked there was still a bug in RedCine for supporting 16-bit per channel codecs (like CineForm.) Rob Lohman has all tools from us to help investigate the problem. I understand there are many upgrades to RedCine under development, we hoping for a fix soon.

I don't see CineForm there on PC platform.
Closest is Cinepak

Maybe it is only on Mac platform.
So once SDK is releised what else we will have if REDCINE already supports exporting to the CineForm?

Are you sure the CineForm is on release 90 of REDCINE in the QT menu?
I can't find it anywhere.

Andrew,

You have to have NEO or Prospect installed, but even then Build 90 isn't supporting CineForm yet. We have to wait for a fix in RedCine, or SDK, then we won't need RedCine. In the meantime we've all been asked to wait. Shouldn't be much longer.

Thanks! David.

I have a dream, one day I will just stop converting all these RAW this and RAW that.
Can we just have one RAW.
I am waiting, patiently, patiently, very patiently...........................

Me too... RED to Cineform to Premiere timeline!!
