While sync sound in Avid the editor assistant added the scene- shot/take structure to the names of the clips so now I have, for example, "44 -2/1 A015 C009 120708" as a master clip name. How can I create an EDL without this extra digits to match the monkey workflow?

Thanks.
Ido.

Avid EDL Manager
Options tab
Tapename truncation: "Remove Beginning".

Use the Red16 EDL template from the metacheater webpage. <<LINK

EDIT: I realise now that you need to truncate the clipnames. The above just works for reels, camrolls and so on.

What is in the TAPE column as far as metadata?

Michael

If you have the original FileName in any other Field You can select that collumn and duplicate it to any editable field sucha as name, camroll, labroll. Once that is made, you may want to select that field as Reel ID Type in EDL manager settings. If you use the RED16 template, you'll have the complete filename as source in EDL.
Hope this helps.

I will give it a try on monday.
Thank you so much, if it works it will save me a lot of sezephian work.

Great tool.
Just wondering how do one-light grading?

I cannot make this work. Can anyone point me to the instructions? I used metacheater to build my offline project, but the program just balks if I use RED16 edl type- and I've tried truncate front and back in CMX3600- pointing both to the root and the specific folder that contains one of the clips in the test EDL. I get 'no matches.' Thanks for any tips.

I think RED16 isn't supported yet. Try exporting a normal EDL with only the reel number in the reel field (Axxx).

If your EDL is formated like this it should work :
001 A005 V C 16:53:40:13 16:53:43:15 00:01:00:00 00:01:03:02
* FROM CLIP NAME: A005_C002_0825FX.MOV

And of course make sure that the "R3D source directory" in the program is set to right directory.

Hope this helps,
Nils.

If you're going to make the EDL only have the reel name, be sure to choose exporting into one folder per reel in the output settings page. Otherwise it will export to A001C001 folders and nothing will match.
