EDIT 3/17 - Problem and Solution Thus Far

PROBLEM - DP4 signal is terrible. Snow, Scan Lines, Image Tearing etc.

SOLUTION(ish)

#1. While your DP4 is unplugged from your Scarlet set Image Flip to HV (horizontal and vertical)
#2. Flip your EVF attachment upside down
#3. For convenience, flip your menus upside down
#4. Set the HDMI output on your Scarlet to 720p
#5. Plug your Scarlet into your DP4 and voila! The DP4 latches onto the signal with no scanning, tearing, snow, etc.

Still waiting on word from SmallHD as to a better solution. Might have to wait until things change firmware wise on Red's end. I'll keep updating as info comes to me.

Joseph,
I'm not...

But I'll be damned if I didn't solve it.... Went to SmallHD's page and they suggested flipping the image both Horizontally and Vertically and that might solve the issue.... and it did!

So, for all of you out there with a SmallHD DP4, if it's not working, flip the Image, flip the monitor, flip the EVF attachment, and voila!

It still has occasional blips and blurps, but loads and loads better than before.

I can't believe that worked.

Phewwww, DP4 has been in my Scarlet plans the whole time. Nice to hear you found a resolution to the problem. Thanks for posting!

It's a known issue with the DP4...it's not the fault of the camera. Open a ticket with SmallHD and they might request you send it back. Sent mine back last week and hoping it comes back working properly.

Oh, great to hear that. I was wondering why my DP4 did that all the time. i was pulling focus on it, and with the screen turning off all the time it was a huge problem. Thanks for figuring that out Justin!

Just got my DP4 back from being repaired by SmallHD today. It used to drop out once or more every minute, but I just ran it with the Scarlet for 30 mins and only experienced 1 or 2 drop outs. This still isn't ideal for me, so I will try the image flip solution as well.

Looks like I have to downgrade my recommendation on the DP4 to "Only buy if you can deal with a product that is slightly incompatible with a Red camera".

I spoke too soon. Now my fix seems to have unfixed itself. Upgraded to the latest version of the firmware to no avail. Contacted SmallHD just now. My DP4 is back to skipping and snowing. Ugh.

Ok, ok, ok... So it's not a great fix, but I've found a fix that seems to be stable... if you set the HDMI output on the Scarlet to 720p, unplug the DP4 and plug it back it, when it reads the signal as 720p, it seems to lock on, no static, no snow, no image tearing. As far as a handheld framing monitor goes, I can't tell a huge amount of difference. We'll see how my assistants feel about pulling off of the feed to my TVLogic, but relative resolution of these small monitors taken into account, maybe it's not such a big deal. Ugh. We'll see if SmallHD has anything to say to me when their tech support gets back into the office.

Thanks for tolerating my rambling.

Funny ... i saw this thread before i connected my (new) scarlet to the DP4 for the first time and was really unhappy in advance. After trying my DP4 i recognized that it works fine. 1080 all good. I know this doesn't help really much but maybe it's just a small number of DP4 having those issues.

edit: i suppose you checked the cables and power supplies already.

Yup. In the thread above you'll see several other posters experiencing the same problem. Still waiting to hear from SmallHD... could be that they've improved the DP4 since I got my second one in September?
