Question- I recently received some footage shot on a Scarlet at 4K, but exported in 1080P before being delivered to me.

Is there any benefit to upscalling back to 4k? Would the footage retain anything or is everything shot at 4k lost when down converted to 1080P?

For the record, I realize it won't be the same. I guess I am asking if there is ANY benefit to going back. Delivery is You Tube (client's request).

Thank you all,

Pete

Hey Pete,

There is no benefit to upscaling 1080 to 4k. It will look like ass. (Not the Victoria's Secret kind of ass, the Wal-Mart kind.)

Yes, the down sample threw away a whole lot of information that no upscaling can restore. If you want to go back to 4k you need to return to the original footage.

Is there any benefit to going back? That all depends upon what kinds of processes you are doing before you deliver your 1080p file. The benefits of working with RAW 4k files are too numerous to list.

What ARE you doing?
