"The Phantom 65-Z3D is a single camera 3D production system that uses Zepar twin lenses inside a single housing to capture stereo images on a single 65mm sensor. Each of the two images is equivalent in size to a Super-35mm film frame, with associated characteristics like depth of field and field of view. By utilizing a single sensor, the P65-Z3D is like a pair of parallel cameras, in such that, there is no toeing-in. By adding the capability to adjust the lenses horizontally in front of the sensor, thus changing the distance between the lenses, it is possible to affect the zero parallax distance and therefore determine the point where objects appear in front of the screen and behind the screen. More on Russian 3D: http://www.stereokino.ru/3dsingle_en.htm "The use of two camera systems for 3D is as archaic as we would try to use today a three black-white film for a color movie instead of a multilayered color film." Bold words, my Russian friend!

Love this pic!

It's a camera Jim, but not as we know it!

So... when is RED going to get in on Stereo-70? Mater of time, I reckon. :wink5:

already talked with them and saw some stuff at IBC, it looked promissing, but the overall interest on Red and Alexa set it in the shadow
might have it's return right now due to the fact more systems like the Sony 4k and the penelope will be present

nothing really new there. In the late sixties or early seventies "Stereovision was doing the same thing on a standard 35mm cine camera.

definitely shouldn't be disregarded as useless. It can work for an array of situations. But this stereo lens technology simply can't fit into every shooting variable, but then again neither can a large rig, though it's all quickly changing!

As first impression I will say that it was the best looking 3D footage I saw at NAB. Free of all the distracting aberrations that I find very annoying while watching some much higher end presentations. It also should be noted that the ex Panavision guru Andy Romanoff seems to be in charge of this project for Abel.
But as he put it lets hold the judgement until we see more material. So far so good.....

Did you watch it at 24 or 120 fps? I think Abel was only showing 24 fps but my friend was also working on a 120 fps presentation.

Now that the cat is out of the bag. I'm hoping this new film that Doug will direct is the one about aliens that I've heard him talking about.

I really need an Epic or two to bring over to Doug's to try out. Hopefully he hasn't already committed to using Phantom. Hey, Epic can do 120 fps too!
