  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Double Asphere (century/tinsley) adapter

Just to back mr. Richards up, I have one of these, and they are excellent.

Cheers,

Nick

ok I'm going to ask since maybe I'm not the only one who has no experience with this... but could you adapt this to work with a still lens with maybe a step up ring or something? How does it attach to the lens?

MaxWax-

It is made to be clamped on, this one has the 85mm backmount but you can also get many other sizes- I have an 80mm stepdown adapter clamp-ring for Superspeeds with 80mm OD. If you wanted to use this on a still lens, you would just get a step-up ring to the correct size and clamp it on. It would work great.

Not sure as I haven't used that one, I think it would be comparable. If I remember correctly though, the Zeiss adapter is more expensive and is made specifically for the 9.5mm superspeed (or was it the 10-100?). The best way to see the quality of this adapter is to bring your Red with your lens of choice to a place that rents out the adapter and try it out- I think you will be pleasantly surprised!

Thats what it should work out to Evin, not sure if the .6x is accurate across the board though, this adapter likes wide lenses to start with and a 24mm on Red might be pushing it.

Just to clear this up, this is an excellent wide angle adapter- but its not going to give you masterprime results, the added barrel distortion is extremely minimal and any aberrations added are very minimal.

What this adapter does for you is this; when your on a shoot in a tight spot and you have maxed out your widest lens, this will save your shot. The image quality will be less than your bare wideangle lens (of course), but it is defiantly "good enough"- which says a lot for an adapter. Every wideangle adapter I have used up until this one was a complete let down- using this one is a shock.

I bought it...

I think it will make a welcome addition to my lens kit for certain non-hardlined EFP genres I work in - alternative sports, adventure travel, tourism, certain documentaries, etc.

I've owned and used a lot of Century wide adaptors over the years. I like Century products. I think this one may very well be the best wide adaptor Century has produced - thanks in part to the added expertise of Tinsley.

Hunter was great to deal with! One nice thing about RED User is that there is a general feeling of family among RED User members...very cool I'd say...
