  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.

Yeah, Kyle, usually I support you man. I too wanted the fixed. But things change...Jim has never stopped saying that. Rather than taking it out in a public forum go motivate yourself and take it out with some passionate work.

I didn't want the fixed. There were no "terminal issues" discussed for the interchangeable. There are no answers, except that 3K is not enough and 2/3" is too small. But it's OK to hype it for years. I have modified my OP, per Ketch's request because I have a lot of respect for him.

the funny thing is that it is all done in the name of 4k

which resolves 3.2k ...

Seems Red has become a religion here to many. I'm moving on.

You know what. I have always been a person who is deeply intrigued with new technology and nothing but the best. RED is pushing the limits out of this world. That to me is why people stick behind and defend RED, because RED is revolutionary.

I wouldn't call it a religion. Unless Jim has started wearing funky colored robes and an ornate helm with bull horns to work, it's definitely just a philosophy applied to a business at this point.
In a single word, business. In two? Success.

LOL Well seen. Guess what? Buy a X but an Epic...

While I can careless about the Scarlet (since we have 3 epics.....but with out accessories ...lol), I think Kyle is allowed to voice his frustration and disappointment. I am not saying I agree with his wording, but give the guy a break...he's not the only one who has waited for the promise of a scarlet for the past few years only to see it no longer in his price range. I have plenty of colleagues who have waited to upgrade their gears (with every year promising it's almost ready) because they wanted the scarlet as it was announced and at the price point they thought it was going to be...they now feel betrayed and have no choice but to go sony or Panasonic. Being a RED user from very early on I have gotten used to the "everything can change" philosophy...but not everyone can deal with this. Nothing surprises me anymore...to be honest I don't even get excited about anything RED announces anymore as I know there are high chances it will change or it will be delayed for an unknown amount of time.
I love our Epics but until we get all our missing accessories (side handle, remote, assault plates and much more) it makes it hard to use it at its full potential... I Was really frustrated and annoyed by this back order crap...but at this point I have accepted that I won't be getting anything until at least February...All the frustrated and disappointed scarlet people will also accept it an move on....but let them vent and voice their frustration...it will help! :)

Ah that is right. I forgot that you were waiting for the Interchangeable. My bad dude.

I like the "new" Scarlet X. I may put my order in this week.
But yeah, I'm a little confused why they decided to kill the 2/3" Interchangeable since it has no fixed lens terminal issues. I like the deeper depth of field of 2/3" for some projects. And I bought about 4 additional lenses since I thought it was a sure thing.

I absolutely will take it out on a public forum. And I will also take the heat. I have modified my OP so that it is not so inflammatory. This forum is my voice. RED needs some tough love right now. And that's the way I feel about it. Still love them, but RED does need to be called out on this.

Fair enough dude. Hope to see you back here with a camera at some point. You really held down SU over the years.

Yes, that's the problem of a few. You are not the only one. Other people did the same. I did the same. BTW, even if they hadn't took reservations for the 2/3" model yet before Nov 4, there's only one thing certain in life ;-)

yes its seems te be overlooked but this scarlet-x is not future proof

according to red's own discourse they need 4.5k at 24p and 25p to earn that title.

Now only very very rich soccer moms can afford Scarlet. :biggrin5:

There is a spoof in there, Peter. Soccer mom on the sidelines following the action with a "Scarlet" and steadycam rig, and focus puller....

Anyway: I feel your pain, guys.

Ketch I respect you a ton. But this is something that was stated very plainly by Jarred:

Google speed binning. Intel, AMD, and all the memory manufactures do it. It is a technical and economic reality of how computer chips are made.

Same here. I bought a new workstation, a new laptop, learnt and trained for the whole RED workflow. What I'm supposed to do now ?

We can just hope this can be achieved in the future via upgrade/firmware. When Epic-X owners (one of my plans as of now, as well) won't feel threatened for the obvious. Every day, technology goes ahead and price decrease follows. Who stops, is not able to be in this business or simply changes the core business or yet, the product to 'sell'. There will always be 1080p market as same as to shoot in lower def formats such as was with S16/16mm or even Super8 in the artistic realm.
