Don't Make Scarlet Too Cheap

Can you please explain what you mean here? Sounds like nonsense to me.

It's just my belief from experience people who don't make a substantial investment in the equipment they own are more likely to be negative and uneducated about their purchase.
sorry to offend scaletuser.com

most of them are very helpful and educated about their tech. Way more than me.

I have to agree. I don't care about people getting good quality for cheap but cheap attracts the haters and uneducated.

The Reduser.net forums will be clogged with spam and bong resin.

Look at scarletuser.com half the post are sarcastic or negative put downs to Red/Jim personally.

Try telling that to 3k Soccer Mom and see if she doesn't put her fist up your ass.

Some people who don't make substantial investment in their equipment cherish what they've got because to them it is substantial.

My radio mics were cheap by industry standard, but if ESPN use G2 systems then they are good enough for me, and I dang well take care of them and all my other "cheap" kit.

I see the opposite side of that coin more often if anything:
It's those folks who go and spend +50K for a kit, only to show up on set with ZERO experience behind a lens calling themselves cinematographers or DP's, and finding themselves in waaaaaay over their head.
Sometimes I smile a little when I see the uncomfortable look on their face after a 2nd AC tells him like it is.

I've worked on a whack of RED gigs and know the camera well but I can't put that kind of money down. So I'm going to grab the Scarlet.
And although I know it won't remotely compare, while I'm waiting for the Scarlet, I bought a $4000 7D kit, ( got a couple of xtra lenses and a small rig) and that's the tool I'm going to use. I'm gonna shoot it like mad, and use it as creatively as I can.

And 4k wasn't so easy to just hand over either...it was significant to an indie guy like me.

Happy shooting!:yesnod:

i know it shouldnt because its really not that important but this thread actually slightly offends me. For the first time a company are actually trying to bring a decent camera to market that can finally produce an image that can be used to potentially make material that rivals big budget film and tv, and MOST importantly they are bringing it to us at a price poor people like me can afford and thats a bad thing? why? lets face it because of the computing power and knowledge needed to edit 3k your not going to find your average joe buying these cameras. I say give everyone the same equipment and level the playing field, the cream will soon rise to the top, and we can just ignore the stuff that sucks. I have enough faith in my skills to be ok with giving every tom, dick and harry these cameras. But lets face it its not going to happpen, red is for the dedicated and serious, the scarlet being cheap simply means that its not just the dedicated, serious and well off that can play with these toys anymore. Please dont suggest that the dream should be killed off for those of us that dont have cash cause we are just as talented and serious as the rest.

Cheers to that...

having better gear than the next guy just cause you can afford it, doesnt make you a film maker.
Id like to see talent take the spot light again...

I second that

What you shoot with your camera is what will set you apart from other filmmakers, not the camera you shoot with. You can own the best equipment and still turn out garbage. Filmmaking is about ideas, its not about how good your camera is. And just because something costs more does not make it better. Price alone is no metric by which to judge quality.

I don't have to defend myself or my views. You don't like it ? Get over it.

We don't have to see everything eye to eye. You don't like me ? I could care less.

Nordstrom vs. Wal mart

People who spend lots on one thing don't always have more. Sometimes they just sacrifice one or many for another.

And did you seriously a soccer mom is going to put a fist up my ass ? wow.
