I’m guessing that the Sony Bravia A95L TV that can be bought with ASBL disabled that was shown at NAB that Nate McFarlin was referring to in the webinar is the commercial version that retails for thousands of dollars more than the already prohibitively priced consumer version.

Most pictures have no HDR intent whatsoever, so it’s about time they addressed how to master SDR content properly in Dolby Vision.

Yeah, I think these new guidelines and best practices presented in this Webinar for Dolby Vision and SDR content will go a long way to better standardize how content amongst Creators is created.

I will give this a watch... as this is a camera forum I wonder how many DoPs have tried monitoring an HDR picture with a true HDR accurate monitor like the Flanders XMP310?

I have made some LUTs to make the picture less objectionable and more useful but setting a Raptor to a clean HDR PQ output horrifies every camera person I have shown.. for some reason HLG fairs better but still not as useful or attractive as SDR for most...

Although I never tried them out myself, have you ever tried making and using a Lut made with the IPP2 LUT CREATOR for HDR? I wonder How they would look? I mean not for Dolby Vision but for a regular HDR Output?

Yes, that is a common observation from some directors and DPs. Famously, DP Steve Yedlin has insisted that his HDR versions essentially be identical to the SDR versions. I believe Steven Spielberg has made the same request.

I've found after working in HDR, I kind of find myself doing the opposite: I want to punch the SDR levels up more to more resemble the dynamic range of Dolby Vision. Of course, we can't there in 100 nits, but I do tend to want to see most of the specular highlights at or near 100ire on the scale.

Marc,

I see a lot of people rethinking their approach to HDR delivery. It seems creators are putting more thought into what they want their individual HDR images to look like.
