I was just wondering if objects fall out of focus at the same rate moving away from the camera as they do moving towards it. Imagine its out of focus-ness was plotted on a curve. Would it be the same curve on each side?

In most circumstances the subject will go out of focus faster moving towards camera then when moving away from it.

from the wiki:
"The DOF beyond the subject is always greater than the DOF in front of the subject. When the subject is at the hyperfocal distance or beyond, the far DOF is infinite; as the subject distance decreases, near:far DOF ratio increases, approaching unity at high magnification. The oft-cited “rule” that 1/3 of the DOF is in front of the subject and 2/3 is beyond is true only when the subject distance is 1/3 the hyperfocal distance."

Not true, if you pass 1:1 image size.

Sorry for an ignorant question but what is meant by the term '1:1 image size'?

When the image being filmed is exactly the same size as on the image sensor or film.
