  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Does Weapon render Redvolts obsolete (vs Redvolt XL)?

I think the REDVOLT XL module (which can take a REDVOLT - sadly not two) and the REDVOLT Expander clearly state that REDVOLTs and their formfactor aren't obsolete. I guess we will see those batteries being around for quite a while and evolve with newer battery-tech sooner or later.

But the absence of a RED-SH with REDVOLT-slot is a mysterium to me. It doesn't make sense, especially since the Weapon lost some weight and that screams even more for "DSLR"-like setups.

However, something like a "smart" (Dual-)Outrigger-Handle does make lots of sense too, less weight, a few controls, good grip - and there could be some internal batteries in those tubes too. I see rom for that, but totally want a REDVOLT-SH.

BTW, i sometimes imagined a setup with a "mirrored" SH for the left side. Second battery, more grip, more controls (maybe with EFF-controls) and better balance than with having batteries on the back.

BTW2, I wish there would be a battery belt clip for REDVOLTs.

Good idea as long as they are not positioned over the kidneys... I hear dialysis is no fun... and not at the belt buckle... I may sire kids yet, or at least want that option...never underestimate the power of an electromagnetic field.

Maybe on the sides over the hips... I understand the hip replacements they are doing now don't have to be redone every 10 years or so. Yeah, I'm good with a hip belt. '-)

Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone know how long the 6k Weapon lasts on a single 89Wh RVXL? That'd help determine Weapons power draw, which is something that has become important for me as of late. Maybe someone with a Forged could pipe in?

As for regular sized RVs; it'd be a shame if they let it die without having a replacement... Not saying I'd want to have to switch (who uses RVs?), but for hot swapping v-mount/ab-mount batteries it was an elegant solution (plus the side handle offered an alternative/tactical control method for those that dislike the touch screen.)

Ive been on films w budgets of 5 mil$ to budgets that, well, aren't much to write home about. REDvolts are a convenience, come in handy so often. REDvolts, REDvolts XL, REDbricks, I love them all.

Haha, it's true; I find them completely useless ...until I absolutely need them and then they're a necessity that I rely on (like one in the gun, that I use for hot-swapping). Granted I'm talking specifically about the single/30Wh RVs -- the XLs hold a decent enough charge (and are, more or less, a v/ab-battery replacement) and bricks are just branded v-mounts.

That's actually why I want to know the power-draw of Weapon. It'd be great if it was only 30W and lasted ~1hour on a single RV... (or better). Though something tells me that the prores-compression/transcode probably eats up gobs of power (even when idle, or not-enabled).

I power the camera primarily with bricks, but I keep religiously a REDVOLT in the side handle, being able to hot swap batteries is one of my favorite thing about it.
