  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Does the Red quickplate work with any vmount batteries?

I'm looking for a universal battery mount. Do I have to go with this or will the Red backpack plate work?

-edit-

Oh, jebus - the required mounting pate is $1,200. Never mind. Looks like I'll be going 3rd party.

Get the Viewfactor APU-IDX. To use the RED quickplate ($650) you apparently need the DSMC Backpack ($1200) to attach it to your camera... which is ridiculous. The viewfactor battery plate is absolutely solid, low-profile and will work with any V-mount battery. I have the Anton Bauer mount version and love it.

Enjoy!

Would you recommend going AB over IDX, if you were starting over from scratch? Which tend to provide the best value?

You should also consider MG1 - they have both versions V-mount & AB plates. Great price for all RED owners - especially designed for Epic/Scarlet cameras.

AB for locking mechanism.

Many people here agree. Google: MG1

Whilst on topic of V-mount plates, does anyone know the smallest sized plate? I'm after one that sits flush with the top of the Epic/Scarlet (including top plate). About 5 inches in height. All the ones I've researched are about 5.5". Ideas anyone?

I myself got the Bebob V-Mount adapter ... It's a little more expensive than the view factor adapter ... but I also bought VF IDX ... both are great companies :yesnod:

Just curious, with the MG1 when the v-mount battery gets low (voltage), will it automatically switch to Redvolt in side handle?
I have both VF plate on my Scarlet and the wooden plate on my Epic.
They both read out voltage, and if you pull the battery off the camera it will switch to the redvolt side handle.

BUT if the voltage drops below 12 or 11 volts the camera just shuts down, no swapping.

I was told by RED that if you want a hot swappable solution you need a Red quickplate and Red bricks. This of course also means you need the ridiculously expensive backpack. But if it really works as I have been told by RED (and I can't verify this) then it might be worth the extra bucks.
