If Scarlett and or Epic has a fan, will it be quieter than the RED 1? Can you turn it off? How long will it run on a 100 degree day before the fan must be turned on?

I'm hoping for a quieter camera. Any news?

Yes, from what I remember reading several months ago, or actually I saw an interview with Ted ("The Mouth") and he stated that they would both have fans. They were Sifnificantly quieter than the R1's fan, and the new Models will have the ability to easy access and swap fans out, or dust them out, if need be.

As for speed and such, it's still a little too early to know, but we'll find out soon enough.

I think the ASICs are supposed to be more power efficient (= cooler) than the FPGA on the RED ONE, so it should be better. But we'll have to wait until there are prototypes to know for sure.

Easy to change Fans - Please.

I hope RED makes the cooling fans easy to change - hopefully, we can do it. I was a bit surprised to see ARRI's new camera at NAB had a fan too.

However, they were proud that the user could swap them out with just 4 screws and expense the item. Having just ripped my 2 year old HD Tivo apart to change a fan, I hope RED, makes it a bit easier and supplies the parts to us.

I also hope that unlike my Tivo that almost died from heat, that RED will having warnings and auto shut off when it overheats. It might even recommend replacing the fan.

Apparently, it's unbelievably easy to change fans. I was told the cooling section in the camera is so isolated you could just take a compressed air hose and blow it out when it gets dirty.

Yup that is almost EXACTLY what I heard Ted say during that interview.

Yep, it's been like this since the October 30th announcement at least (as far as I can remember). I was actually pretty amused to hear an Arri rep talking about the Alexa's innovative new sealed heat-sink section with a user serviceable fan in an interview at NAB. I wonder where they got that idea from?
