Dear RED Team

Do you plan on bringing back RED Color to the Epic gamma settings?
Red Gamma2 is good but doesn't make the clients happy. RED Color was awesome on set. The skin tones looked fantastic.
My DP friends always couldn't belief how good the color sience looked on screen right out of the box.

It would be nice to get the RED color gamma setting in to the Epic. It will turn heads for sure.

Thanks

Tim

?? - our experience was quite opposite. I seriously doubt they will de-volve their algorithms.

+1
If there is something I don't miss from the past, it is:

RedSpace
RedGamma

You can allways light with higher contrast, if that's what you're after...

RedGamma pushes out info in both ends, and effectly gives you the impression of much narrower DR than what you have in your hands...

You can allways contrast it up afterwards (or just adjust the contrast and saturation setting in-camera, though I am religiously against doing stuff like that... )

Cheers!

Set the on camera metadata to Contrast .4 and saturation 1.3 and you've got something very close to Redgamma/Redcolor. Makes the village happier.

I miss understood the question
my bad

I generally use contrast of +0.5 and saturation around 1.2 or 1.3 for a "client happy" image. "Client" is usually myself. I'd remove them for grading and go with REDLogFilm, REDColor2 with neutral on everything else.

Tim,

It's in the advanced settings of Redcine x if you really want it you can turn it on and have it as an option in post.

Not sure toy could generate a camera look file with it though.

David.

Thanks guys

I need the look on set not in post. In post I tweak everything the way I want, no problem. I have my RED-One for 4 years now, I know how to handle it.
On set it was nice to have the RED color gamma setting right from the camera. It gave you a nice "ballpark" picture to go with. I could always toggle between RAW and REDcolor and be save.
REDcolor had a nice little curve in it, that you normaly would apply in post anyway. So if it looks good on set, you knew that you had it later too. The clients loved it and the proxies looked so much better to do the roughcuts for the clients.

Now with REDgamma2 the skin tones don't look that good anymore. That's the first thing my whole crew noticed and told me on set last time. Of course you see more DR like this but for that I push the RAW button.
Is there a way to create a personal Curve/LUT and load it in to the Epic?

Thanks Guys
Tim

Tim,

I'd follow Graeme's advice here, but the answer to your quesiton is yes.

IN RCX PRO under the fle menu there is a command that reads:

save current look to camera.

So you can import a shot and create a simple base look that you feel improves your monitoring path on set.

You could then load that look on the camera.

You can create a couple of presets like personal tungsten or daylight presets and then load them onto the camera by copying it onto a formateed SSD card. Then you could save them to the camera memory.

NO problem.

Whenever I can help it makes me happy.

My only advice would be to not get to radical because we can tend to trick ourselves even if we think we are not. :)
