  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Does anybody realy need QUAD BATTERY MODULE?

More versatile than the side handle for the Redvolt?

All i want is a simple cord which plugs directly into a redvolt with minimal size so i can put the battery where i want. With a thin cord that bends everywhere. Want to take advantage of the modular. Why is something so easy, versatile and inexpensive so hard to get hold of?

It sticks out the side, making the camera larger. I want to put the battery wherever I need in any particular setup. For balance (under the lens for ex), For small spaces, off camera etc.. I want this tool to be versatile, that's what i bought into. It just seems so obvious to me.

Ok... got it. Well I have clipped my AB battery to my belt before when I needed to get into a tight spot. Action Products have a REDVOLT dual battery solution that they showed at NAB.

Thanks. A battery belt with thin cord for red volts would do the trick. I have seen some lipos used on octocopters. I think i have to get a battery designer on the job.

I never really understood all the complaints about the quad module. Stage two owners didnt really pay for it to begin with. It was included in a heavily discounted package.
Although its not my most used option, it definitely comes in handy. And since the reality is I got it for free with my Stage 2 Epic, Im keeping it for those instances when it could be very useful.

I think if Red would have charged us full price for stage 2 up front, then shipped the module when it was ready there would have been a lot less complaining.

Don't really understand Greg......I got stage 2 but just paid an extra $2,200 for the quad and adapter which I was told I had to take??? Is this different to others?

Mark, what accessory are you using to mount your V-mount batteries to 19mm rods?

It shouldn't be extra but red breaks out the individual pieces for invoicing. Your total for your whole package should be 19,500. It can get confusing if you sent in a lump sum and in the meantime bought other stuff while waiting for the module because, at least in my case, they deducted from the amount on account for the other items which left a balance due when they were ready to ship the battery module. It was helpful for us but it could get a little confusing.

Thanks Mike,
I'll have to go back and look at original amounts deposited with Red.......you're right though - easy to loose track when spending left right and centre!!!

Just curious, did anybody try and exchange the quad battery module for something else at the Red store? I have one coming and have absolutely no need for it.

If Red can sell it at full price to somebody who needs it and I can get something I need, everybody wins. Does this make sense?

Kinda. but I cannot see many buying that at the stipulated pricepoint.

It's not a bizarre situation. When you bought your Epic-X package via Stage-2 or Stage-3, you purchased a complete package that included the quad battery module. Many of us do find it useful and to be a nice addition. I'm not sure why others are so against using it. I understand that a lot of people already have power solutions and have been getting along fine without the Redvolt battery modules up to now. But look at it this way, resale value is extremely low due to so many people deciding they just don't want it. So you may as well hold onto it. Never know, you might actually find that you like it.

Like you're saying, I would bet sales of these modules through RED are probably lighter than they had expected. ...with so many people out there selling them for cheap. I picked up one at a bargain for my Epic-M. Glad I did.

The Dual battery Module only plays nice with the smaller RedVolts.

Personally I always felt the dual battery module was the better option, especially when adding audio and other modules.

BTW I never found out, does the Dual Battery module take the XL Redvolts batteries ?
and is RED still planning on producing a Pro Res/DNxHD Proxy module ?

IMO The less third party add-on's and the more streamlined the Epic and Scarlet are the better.
If the price of the Dual Module and Redvolts were even more competitive I reckon this would be
the method of powering for most users.

The big question for me is why it has taken so long to produce a RED Pro Res / DNxHD module.
Surely giving the demand for such a unit it makes sense to provide a proper RED version designed
for the Epic and Scarlet.

The bigger issue with the redvolt XL solution is the extremely high $ per watt. You end up with a module that can't be connected anywhere other the rear of the body AND requires proprietary batteries that cost $700 to provide 3hrs of camera time... (as I posted previously, we get that with a single 150Wh brick at a cost of $300 or less).

Pros: Hotswapping (moot if you have the sidehandle)
Cons: Proprietary batteries, Weight, lack of mounting flexibility, lack of D-tap, high price/watt.

Jeff... Allmost tempted to beat dead horse here...

But I won't...

Hahahaha!

Maybe Red should have wrote up the invoices differently.

Add the $1950 to the price of the Brain and mark the quad Module as free.

Then we wouldn't have people keep complaining about it.

Not sure about that, these people will find something else to mock about...
For me I picked up one of those "unwanted" Quads and I´m happy I did!

Cheer, Ulf

The pricing on the Quad Battery Module does seem a little strange; it's twice the price of the Side Handle, which I consider a really wonderful, if not essential, component. Perhaps there are some manufacturing costs that are not apparent to the uninitiated.

I'm not sure if mine will see service, but I'm going to hang on to it; often the lessons in the field produce an "ah-ha" moment.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo
