I'm just putting the finishing touches on a little doc-like book promo for a good friend of mine here in Oakland, CA. Shooting it gave me a chance to run around town with the Scarlet-W and a couple EF lenses, screw-on NDs, and some wireless mics.
Editing this camera's output is very rewarding. This was a quick edit on a laptop in FCPX (no Resolve, no grading beyond tweaking RAW settings in FCPX). Interview audio was recorded over wireless lavs through the V-Lock I/O module.
It's heavier and needs a little more care, power, and media, than a C100 or FS5, for sure, but the fact that RAW still images are being captured simultaneously, and that the latitude of R3D gives a lot of cushion for color and exposure, make it a pretty compelling tool for this kind of shooting. I have a few more commercial mini docs in the weeks ahead and really look forward to dialing in my DSMC2 run-n-gun chops
EDIT: the author is a Christian minister, so the video has a little religious language.. apologies if that's not your cup of tea
