I'm considering trimming more on my recordings to save some disk space.
I have quite many long slow motion shots that does not have to be that long.

Do you use trims? Are they safe to use or are there any risk with it?
Thanks

I've used Trim since before RED officially released it (I reverse engineered REDCode to write a trimmer). RED encrypted the format and locked out user trimming because they said they were afraid that users would create Trimmed files that wouldn't be supported down the road. Well, my original REDOne clips that my personal tool created still open in REDCine. So I would say trimmed files are perfectly safe even under the worst possible unofficial situations.

We trim all of our media after a project and delete the source footage if it's not usable stock footage. So far so good. *knock on wood*.

Great to know. What about sound? I noticed that it split my files into a video and a sound file ever time, it would be better if it didn't.
Any setting to correct this?
Edit: Hmm, read in the manual that it will split the audio. I guess that makes it less useful for sequences with audio. How do you deal with this, lets say if the audio serves as a scratch track?

Also imagine this scenario. You have filmed a long sequence and you only like a part in the beginning and another part in the end.
Do you export to 2 different trim files? What would you name them then?
Just want to avoid running into post production headaches later.

What programs can trim r3d? Rcx pro of course and I think davinci. Is there anymore. Hoping to se this in premiere for easy project archiving.

I didn't know even Davinci did it. I always export an XML from premiere and do it in RCX.

i didn't know davinci did either?

actually, been meaning to say. would be really, really, really helpful if red would allow and/or ask adobe to do this as a part of premiere's automatic 'project manager', which consolidates and trims clips for transfers, archival, etc.

I think it came in DaVinci Resolve 9.1.3
It is listed under New Dailies, Audio, Conform and Editing tools.
• Trim RED R3D clips to new extents with handles
