We've seen problems with the new QuickTime 7.4 update. One user has reported slower decodes and we've seen problems of movies not working at all.

We are working on resolving these issues. Please stick to 7.3 for now!

Thanks,

See if you can download the old version of the Apple site. Unfortunately OS X does not come with an uninstall option for almost all stuff (yeah yeah, I know it's not needed most of the time).

Appologies for this guys... we didn't know this was coming (and would mess things up).

I have identified that it breaks the camera generated movies. If you use RED ALERT to re-generate those files then you can at least keep working (although it might be slower as reported).

We're working with Apple to figure out what's happening!

That's not a bug, that's some missing code which is being put in

Downgrading to QT 7.3.1

Downgrading to QT 7.3.1

Hey guys, if you, like me downloaded the QT 7.4 upgrade and then got seriously messed over trying to downgrade back to QT 7.3.1, then after you've downloaded QT 7.3.1 stand alone installer from the apple site (link posted somewhere above), you've probably found out that you can't just install it over 7.4, as the mac installer won't let you.

To get around this problem I've used something called Pacifist 2.5.1, you can download it from http://www.charlessoft.com/

It's shareware, the free trial works to install QT 7.3.1, but it's well worth the $20 IMHO.

yes indeed this will enable you to reinstall QT 7.3.1 without reinstalling the OS

I can confirm this. After much cursing, and repeated tries to make the files play...

I found out about this in some forum somewhere. It works dandy.

Just select "replace" when the warning window pops up.

And send Charlessoft some love...

Another reason why QT 10.4 sucks:
(EDIT: uh, I mean 7.4...)

From Stu Maschwitz's website:
"Apparently the new DRM-checking routine will stop your After Effects render after ten minutes because it thinks you're trying to hack your own file. And since Adobe finds out about Quicktime updates the same day you and I do, here we are."

Apple, why do you suck so much?

Ah well, guess it's always been this way. I remember the old Silicon Graphics days, when my South Africa friends running Softimage and Power Animator would have long conversations about which version of IRIX they should run on (nowhere near the latest version, most of the time).
