  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Do i need to do black shading after each upgrade?

On this topic...does the black shading follow the SSD card? Meaning, when I change/format SSD cards do I need to re-black shade? Thanks guys!

No - it stays with the camera. It just needs some formatted media during black shading to write temporary files.

I just upgraded to 3.0 and i did a black shade calibration 2 days ago

After upgrading, the camera will default to the factory calibration map. However, the user calibration map will persist between upgrades.

Best practice is to run a new black shade after a firmware upgrade, but we do provide the ability for you to recover your previous user calibration map in the calibration menu.

A good tip for checking whether or not to run black shading is this:
1) Let the camera come up to temperature
2) Put a lens cap on the camera for a nice flat black field
2) Crank the ISO to 12800

If you observe a nice flat field image, you're calibration is good and you don't need to black shade.

Thanks guys!

It's been a while since I've done this but do I have to have a lens on to do this properly?

A lens isn't required, but you do need to make sure absolutely no light is falling on the sensor.

Thanks for the tip. Would it be possible to post a shot of a nice flat field image as a reference.

Would also like more info on this flat field. Also what temp is up-to-temp (39c)
We should be viewing the red curve not the RAW view as well?

I'm guessing yes, view the RAW mode on the monitor so you actually see what the sensor is seeing.

Awesome tip "TheBled" :-)

RAW view will not amplify the signal in the image. Noise is OK at that high of an ISO, what you don't want is any left to right shading.

could someone upload an image of what a nice flat field image should look like, i've just done a black shade and i want to check my calibration is up to par

ok,
how bad is this?
it's pretty close to what i see in RedCine
