  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Do I need a voltage converter in Australia?

I just ordered some adapters for my scarlets, but then read in the listing that they "do not change the voltage - only the shape of the plug".

Will I need some kind of voltage converter to run my USA cameras/charge my batteries in Australia? Or will these pin adapters do the trick?

Thanks for any help.

I just run the Pin adapters and no sparks from my chargers yet.
I changed the cord on my AC power adapter to a Australian 3 Pin I found on an old kettle, works fine.

I don't want to have a crack at telling you how the rating of cords and stuff works cause I am fairly sure I am wrong.
But adapters work fine, if you replace a cord don't get one that has a rating (Volts & Amps) less then the one you are replacing.

It's the same as using any adaptor overseas, take a look at the label and it will give you a voltage and frequency range. In the US, it's 110V @ 60 Hz, in Australia it's 240 V @ 50 Hz. As long as the adaptors support voltage in this range (or near enough, sometimes devices are rated at 220 or 230 V) then you have no problem.

The DSMC power supply works happily in Australia at 240 V, all you need is the correct IEC cable to plug them in. The REDVOLT charger also works at 240 V.

We just changed the cables and all is well in Europe, both with the power supply and the travel charger.

You will not need any voltage converters. Just 1 x jug plug ( as we call them in Oz ) for the mains power supply for the camera & depending on your battery system ? x 2 pin female plugs to 24O volt plugs for the RED volt chargers. You can get these cables new from J Car , Dick Smith or similar. Also these cables may well be hanging around the house in old electrical items.

The only questionable one is for the SSD reader but that can also power off your computer.

Just to re-confirm you don't need any transformers to power any of the Red gear as it is rated for voltage between 110- 240 volts.
