  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DNxHD Export Problems

Hi Guys,
Just a quick thanks, I successfully imported red footage into avid mc 2.8 using dnxhd120 ! The only problem so far is that the first qt in all the imports does not bring TC (but since we are cutting online, it does not matter) and also that the media appears in avid as offline even tough it is not.
Now am off to an FCP project so will keep you posted. ( by the way just saw my first red camera, pretty impressive machine!)

Just an update.
I started my project from the DNXhd on the avid, and it all seem happy until ... the files would not play, or some would and some wouldn't ... what was the problem ? well the production recorded the audio in the camera, so being 32 bit it can not be used by Avid. Then, the proxies I used to import into vid were created with Red Alert, and they do not contain any audio, but the ones the camera created do. So... when you import these files nto the avid, the metadata saying that there is audio is still there, so the avid gets all confused playing these clips. I lost so much time, and almost the client. I had to get an FCP to run this short. Apparently there are a couple of new tools that will fix this, and also the version 3 of MC seems to work better, I got one from avid on a loan to test, but it feels too beta yet.
Any thoughts ?
 
The latest Red Alert has an Avid Audio Compatbile check box you can select to repack the 32bit audio into 24.

I am estimating that withing 2 weeks (~ july 12) we will have a whitepaper and updates to Red Alert and RedCine XML available.

Same question.... can you estimate when it will be possible to export a RedcineXML out of a Mediacomposer?
Would be great to know....

That's what I was referring to - ~ July 12. It is not a direct export from Media Composer. It will be Master XML of seqeunce from FilnScribe, then we will provide an XSLT to create a redcine XML pull list directly.

Will this part of Media Composer 3 ?
Ive got two features coming ... (OMG) and I know the editors and they want AVID .... so there is no escape this time to FCP. I am going to give this new red alert a try right now. Cheers,

The foundation for all of this is in Media Composer v3. There will be an update to FilmScribe and a folder full of XML XSLT files to complete the round trip workflow from and to from RedCine. I am hoping it will be done testing and review by mid-July.
