Assembled some of my better time lapses from the past year. Most of these shots were shot on 5D mark III, but a few of them were shot on red MX. Hope to shoot more timelapses on Dragon this year, very time saving to not have to render from photos.

Made it a little long for a reel, more of a short film, a random journey, what a wild and amazing ride it was to capture it all. Wanted to make the edit tickle the brain. Did I succeed?

Great work! You are covering at least half a day on some of those shots. How are you powering the camera for that long?

Can i ask what frame rate you are shooting at? and are you using HDRX?
Using something like 1 frame per second, with a 90degree shutter angle how many hours of timelapse do you get with at 128G card?
I use my D4 and Dynamic perception slider for timelapse but want to start using my dragon.

Yeah man this is great!

I havent explored timelapse on the red, is there an easy way for someone to explain it for me?
Ive done a bit with DSLR's but i haven't really thought about it on the red.

Thanks glad you guys enjoy!

Most of these were shot on the 5d mark III. Just started to shoot time lapse on my Red cam. How much time you can shoot at 1fps on the Red cams all depends on what compression ratio you choose. I usually shoot on 1:3 because compared to 24fps or above it does not take up a crazy amount of space and all that data is good for night/day day/night shots for ramping levels. I just started to shoot HDRX as well, seems pretty amazing.

Most of the shots in this reel play out 2-10 times a fast as their originals, the intervals range from shot every 1sec to every 30sec.

I wish I had more knowledge for you on shooting tl on the Red, but like I said I have only shot a handful on the beast myself. To get started you should let you cam warm up and make a time lapse black shade calibration at 180 or 360 degree shutter at 1fps. Really love how 1fps at 360 degree shutter looks, especially for fast moving things like cars and people. Your going need some serious nd in the day time at 1fps 360, especially if you don't want to be maxing out your aperture. Check out frame summing also, just started to try and get that working as well. You can also simply use your current black shade of 24fps, but in order to have happy temp readings at 1fps your going to have a really fast shutter around 8 degrees.

Will report back when I have more experience with Dragon and Time Lapse

Forgot to answer your question on powering the camera. Generally the canon battery will get long enough life for most shots. If I want to go longer then 4-6hrs then I either plug in my kessler ion with one of these cords or I use my canon grip. Don't get knockoff grips, none of them are solid enough for time lapse. The Ion will power the mark III for multiple days, its by far the most amazing battery I have encountered, great for powering motion control TL setups as well. If you want to build you own and save some $ here is the battery thats inside it, and a better more expensive and lighter weight one here.

As far as powering the epic for time lapses I use bricks. Found that for my motion controlled setup its nice to have the red battery belt v-mount so you keep that weight off the setup.

Hope that helps!

That's just really good...worth viewing all six minutes.

How long did it take to do domed structure TL which goes from ground completely covered in snow to only snow at top of a distant peak?

Amazing stuff!

Thanks Daniel, appreciate the kind words! The dome greenhouse shot was up and running for 3 weeks, plugged into ac power, but the bit in the video was only a few days. Unfortunately the card filled up right as the frame was going up, but at least I caught the panels.
