  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DJI Ronin

Frank, you need two 3-position switches to take full advantage of the Ronin's controls and stay future-proof...
I'm myself a FUTABA guy and the 10J is amazing value for the money - you can find it for around $200 if you look around...
Other manufacturers might have cheaper models...

Thanks, Peter. Where do you suggest looking around for a cheaper one? I see them on ebay for about 330

Another solution for those sore arms carrying the Ronin is a much lighter gimbal that also carries the Red. If you got the budget that is. Now you can have 2 gimbals, one for fully geared setup with the Ronin and one light weight action setup. Weighing merely at 6 pounds, about half the weight of a DJI Ronin, the AllSteady 6 gives you the freedom to explore without boundary. Now you are able to obtain extended footage in the most rigorous conditions without wearing out your arms and body. Carry it behind the back of an ATV or take it to a treacherous ski slope or zip line and feel completely confident with its light handling. The AllSteady 6 is also designed with versatility to give you the freedom to express with a wide variety of cameras such as Red Epic, 5D, GH4 and Blackmagic 4K. The AllSteady 6 is a complete redesign of the currently successful AllSteady 5Pro at www.turboace.com. It offers a much wider range of applications such as follow focus mount and large lens such as The Canon 24-70mm F2.8. The ultra light AllSteady 6 does so much with so little effort with your Red is available to ship by second week of March. The Kickstarter campaign is only setup for 22 days due to the early ship date. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/378402544/allsteady-6pro-dslr-3-axis-gimbal-stabilizer

It's interesting that in the picture of the Epic on the gimbal it has no side handle. Looks like it might not fit. Guess you would have to add a brick to the top handle? Wouldn't that just make it heavy again?

If it's really about the price, you can go with something like that (I have one of this for drone stuff, flawless) : http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/..._Module_8ch_Receiver_Mode_2_v2_Firmware_.html

But you'll need some programming steps to setup the remote.

Would the same steps be necessary for the more expensive FUTABA 10J? What is the advantage of the 10J that could make it six times more expensive than this one?

Thanks for your help, Guillaume

Not only at 6lbs it weighs lot more then "half of Ronin" (which weighs just over 9lbs fully kitted with 4+ hr battery), but also - according to the specs on your kickstarter campaign - it only offers 8lbs payload, as compared to the 16lbs payload of the Ronin. As anyone who has worked with RED on gimbals will tell you - even the uprated 12lbs payload capacity of the Movi M10 (was originally 10 lbs) barely covers average stripped down configuration for RED brain. 8lbs is simply not enough, period...

When it comes to RED, even handholding normal config without any gimbal requires certain level of physical strength and stamina. If you intend on operating RED on any gimbal beyond 2-3 min takes - you are going to need additional support one way or another...

Also by posting they way you did - even including links to your product and your kickstarter campaign - IMHO you are really crossing the line here where it comes to this forum's rules and general etiquette...

Peter, can you maybe help me with this? Having a hard time deciding which to buy, i don't want to waste extra money on a fancy remote that I won't use with anything else, however I definitely want to be able to operate my Ronin as flawlessly as possible...

Thanks for your patience on the thumb control system, we are putting more time to perfect the device. Expect more information around NAB. Thanks.

Hi, I was wondering if you could tell me what the IMU port is for for the Ronin? I can't find any info on it.

Thanks!
