  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

dji Ronin (XL) Multi Test-Shoot/Review!

Well, with the extends cinemilled arms, I can balance like before when I have counter weight. Next Job I will do a pictures, when I put the camera upstair and on the right or left side for exemple, nothing move. Maybe for the FS700 it's different because the camera is longer, but in my case, it's good.

Hi Alexandre!

Could you please list any additional pieces of kit besides the RED camera and the cinemilled arms, that U used for your setup?

Thank you very much

Fury

Hi Nick,

As i said on my pm, I am using a FS700 with 7Q :) my camera is really longer than the RED and I have lot of space behind so I think you will be fine for add extra pieces !

yes it can be the case. That its not valid for all cameras and all lens configs though, even at your case, if you have a big selection of lenses, you might find this a problem.

Good that its all fine for you. thats the only thing that matters.

regards

Yes for sure, actually Canon 35 L up to 135L and 24-70ii are ok, so sounds good for me :)

thanks !

Hey...sorry if this has been covered.

I have been leaning towards the Helix due to its dutch roll capability...

Does the Ronin offer a dutch roll solution?

The Ronin has a Roll Motor with also specific Roll Adjustment axis and specific control of it via the iOS app.

I think Michael talks about nodal roll and not just any kinda roll, the dutch roll expression is incorrect.

I think he asks about roll around the centre of lens. Which other than the Helix doesnt exist in any other gimbal. It can only happen out from pure luck having a perfect camera accessories and lens that together with the hardware support of the roll axis finds the COG around the centre of lens, something that is very unlikely to happen.

regards

I apologize if my terminology is incorrect. I often time need to shoot angularly from the horizon line in order to creatively capture talent during concert events. The helix has a joystick that seems to be a compositional solution in those situations. I was hoping the Ronin had a similar option to accomplish this.

Thanks for for the response!

Really liking mine:

If you want to run a ronin alot on your own and only have canon and sigma ef lenses. What would be the best way to change the focus?
I looked at the cinegear follow focus but skipped the groupbuy since i think it would probely be better with something that works directly with the internal motors of the lens. Would it be better to have gone the cinegear round anyway? I do not think I will pull of long lenses and short dof while operating the gimball at the same time. With the new design of the exoskeleton it looks like you could use one hand to change focus before you start recording (for wide tracking shots). But i like to have the chance to change focus more conviniant.

Also has anybody worked with the belt clip and redbricks to power the camera. Im not so intrested to get yet another power sulotion if not needed. Perhaps getting another battery plate the red bricks mounted on the handle bar?

Offhollywood Hotlink and Foolcontrol!!

Are you mounting your iphone then on the handle or is it any "proper" wheels that works great with it. I dont think i could work without a tactile device.

The only way to run Power off the camera, and or completely off the Ronin via a Belt clip is by using a super thin and flexible power cable, can't do that with the power cable that comes with the Belt clip, its too stiff and thick to allow free movement of the Ronin.

No Joel,

I haven't got one made as of yet, in the making... But I just tested current Power cables as the one form RED and they do not work.

Yes for the LCD cable when using a RED LCD with the Ronin this is the only one I use from Austin Glass, of Slacklinefilms.com a great flexible and very thin cable that allows for as free movement as you can get while using a cable on any Gimbal.

Yet the absolute best and most ideal LCD set up is a wireless one.
