  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

dji Ronin (XL) Multi Test-Shoot/Review!

That is called Reverse mode, and it works really great.

However when the shot is already planned upfront and is to be entirely at eye level or close to it, shoulder mode kind of shot.

I would always mount the camera it self upside down to begin, so that when in reverse mode the image it is actually recorded properly and in no need to be flipped.

Of course you would need a Epic Top Camera Plate, which I always have mounted on DragonM8 any ways.

We'll be testing this further and show pics and offer opinion when done.

I will with pleasure if I run across some one that owns one, or collaborate with a Rental house, which could be a possibility upon my return to Mainland form Sardinia by end of month.

But as I am a Dragon user only, unless I find it at the rental house thru a collaboration of a private owner.

Truly appreciate the rapid response!

Nice Constantine... More and more I see some serious long term benefits to a Easy rig-Puppeteer-Serene-Ronin combo... Can't wait to test it out... And we'll do my bets to really try and make IBC... Hell, I might just even take a Road trip all the way form Italy for it and stop all along the way there an back stopping to see fellow Reduser friends and shoot away... :)

Ketch

Where did you purchase the sleek Touch LCD cable on your unit? What length is cable?

Daniel,

that is a LCD cable I got from fellow Reduser Austin, which I am testing and also awaiting RED's approval on it... It is a great cable, very flexible, super thin, and ideal for Gimbal use (well Ideal if you HAVE to use a cable, perfect choice would be Wireless monitoring on all Gimbals)... If Jarred approves of it, I promised Austin I'll asset in doing a Group Buy for him...

The length is 3'.

Btw...

We are on location setting up for an other shoot... And while the Ronin si going out to their news happy to be owners, and all mechanical and physical improvements have been done... Thanks to the efforts of all Beta Testers, and DJI's incredible support and good will to listen to the end users... Testing continues... For things to come... :)

Hi Mark,

That lens is the Red Pro Prime 300mm, a very "Front Heavy" long lens... ;)

Since I left the original XL arms I tested in LA, I am now awaiting their arrival here in Italy, when the boys at DJI LA are done with some tests of their own as well, then I'll be able to continue on and do some more tests including those with longer camera set ups, which means longer lenses...

Hi folks!

We are glad to hear some of you have started to receive your Ronins! This is great! Please share your experiences and do not hesitate to ask any questions or provide any feedback.
Quick heads-up on the accompanied iOS application - please make sure to download the one linked on DJI's website...:

(the barcode)

The DJI Assistant on the Apple store is still waiting approval from Apple to include this latest version that supports the Ronin. This is just temporary and as soon as Apple approves the update - you can just search the AppStore for the app.
But in the meantime if you can not connect to the Ronin with your phone (and your BluTooth is ON) - just make sure you have downloaded the right application...

Cheers

Thanks for posting Peter, posting links form iPhone can be a real pain...

Back in the room... And till is on Apple's... Here is the direct link to the iOS App: http://m.dji.net/dji-assistant

Mean time we continue to push the Ronin... And thanks again to fellow Reduser Austin Glass for the great Thin LCD cable!!

Ketch thank you for this review! i cant wait to see the full beauty of your tests, i have already ordered mine RONIN so I iam very excited about it!!

anyway i have a question :
what kind of wireless monitoring for gimbal operator would you recommend?
production / dudget ?

thank you !

My pleasure Juraj!

I would most likely go with a 5" to 7" Monitor, from TV Logic to the Odyssey 7 or SmallHD, with Wireless systems such as Paralinx, Teradek or Radian systems each are good at what they do and offer different options both in gear and budget.

I have not made my final decision on which one to go with yet, but when I do I'l be sure to share.
