  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DJI Inspire 1. . . how good?

you should try that tactic with some of your clients and see how long you stay in business:)

very strange and very sad we all have come to except this quality of service as the norm.

I think I'm going to wait for the Inspire 2. That might be the King of the Cheap Drones.

I didn't have control over the filming part, so can't speak to that. It's possible they had some settings that caused issues but there were shots with a lot of trees and details and the footage was unacceptable based on the quality threshold for this particular movie. I also brought VFX in to look at to get their thoughts and they reached same conclusion. And finally, the DP (who was not part of the actual shoot as it was second unit) also said no go.

So, this shouldn't be taken as a complete slam against the camera and more of a warning to make sure to do lots of tests if you'll be using one on a critical project. Nick, your work is always stellar, so I know you wouldn't use something if it wasn't up to the task. So I'm not surprised you got great results. Perhaps more testing could have prevented or at least minimized the issues I was seeing on our show. But honestly, they should have just flown a Dragon and called it a day.

We have done a ton of flying with our Dragon and our Inspire. If you have perfect light, perfect settings and a good ND, the Inspire is decent for 1080 delivery. I would never cut it with Dragon footage because it doesn't make sense and we don't have to. We are very biased but still think aerial shots should wow the viewer, not be barely acceptable. There are a ton of people flying GH4's which cuts with Red far better than the Inspire.

The Inspire is popular beacause it flys good and is easy to deploy, not because it has a great image. The new Alta will be just as easy and will have the same impact for high end cinema cameras. Ours arrives next week.
