  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DJI Inspire 1. . . how good?

you know you can go into all the camera settings and take the default sharpening all the way down, same with contrast and saturation. Can also shoot in log. Lots of cool things when you go digging.

:)
thanks Dom,
i am aware , and i am not talking about out of the box setup, but i couldn't find any inspire footage, including downloaded from dji site, that looks as good, as i said, at least to my eye

How well does the Inspire do in wind? I live in Kansas, and it's always blowing around here.

Thanks.

Stephen

I suspect most new drone buyers are blissfully unaware of how much real estate will be no-go/no-fly zones like - 5 miles from active airports, Class B, C, D, restricted, prohibited, military, NSA, class airspace, etc. in a post geo-fenced drone world. Looking at sectional maps it becomes rather sobering in the populated areas of the U.S. Add in the new privacy standards in process and it will be close to "FANANA" which translates to "fly absolutely nothing anywhere near anything"

I'm uploading some ungraded 4K & HD Inspire content here
Thank you Thomas!
0:30 shot reminded me landing sequence from Prometheus :) I guess footage was re compressed, but still looks awesome,
if you could post 5 seconds straight from the camera 4K shot in Log that would be awesome, don't even need to fly, just something highly detailed and showing DR;
Are you saying that was your first flight?

I've flown in it 15-30mph winds without issue. It doesn't handle as well, but it is still very stable and captures perfectly smooth video with pretty heavy winds.

Hi,

I'm interested for the DJI Inspire One, but the majority of the online footage are not perfectly fluid. Is this a problem specific to the Inspire 1?

Looks like crap. ;) lol it's gopro footage at a higher bit rate, but still has the crazy "video" look to it. Super crushed blacks, very digital.

I'm agree with you, of course the look and the color science of the camera is not amazing, but it's not a problem for my use. The biggest problem is the "non-fluidity", i don't know if it's a problem of shutter or simply vibrations from the drone but almost of the videos from the Inspire One have problems of fluidity.

I keep hearing that the bit rate is higher...but the Inspire 1 has a bit rate of 60mbps at 4k and 25mbps at 1080. I don't think this is any better than the GoPro. The aliasing and moire out of the Inspire camera are certainly worse than the GoPro.

I still say the Inspire has a better overall image than a GoPro. The crushed blacks are a choice in most videos as you can shot in LOG and have quite a bit of dynamic range, at least equal to shooting ProTune on a GoPro Hero4 Black. The camera has it's limitations, it's not anywhere near a RED or even a GH4, but if you're comparing it to the overall image out of a go pro, I would choose the inspire camera.

As for the footage being "fluid", I'm not sure what you mean. It seems extremely stable to me. Check out this video I put shot on the Inspire. The title shot is sped up a massive amount and the image is rock solid. Most gimbals have a bit of variance(other than a movi), especially when moving at 20+mph, but the inspire seems to do really well.

I have an Inspire and a GoPro Hero4 black, if anyone wants any specific comparisons, let me know. I also have 5D MK3, Scarlet MX and a couple Dragons, but obviously those would easily outperform the inspire, even in optimal conditions.

yesterday I had a chance to shoot commercial with inspire for the first time
wind was 8~10meter/s max

after a day of shoot, I was impressed

01 the package is nice.
it was the nicest/useful/proper package that I ever bought in my life

02 it just works in real world with no hassle right out of box. and it touched my heart

03 I never imagined I could bring just one bag(original from Dji) for professional job
I carried just one bag to airplane to go to island
I own phantom to giant octocopter for Red epic and it was such a pain to carry all of drone equips and set it up everytime

Monty,

That is good to hear that you are happy. Mine should be here in a week. How long flight time are you getting on the batteries? I ordered one extra battery and I wonder if I should have more batteries?

How long is charge time?

[FONT=Verdana, Tahoma, Arial, Calibri, Geneva, sans-serif]01 battery life
yesterday was cold day here
About -5c outside
so battery running time was about 10min though spec on paper is 15min

so I tried keep batteries warm till right before flight
and charged total 3 batteries with 2 chargers in my car repeatly

I think I should buy 2 more 5400mah batteries for next shoot
All of mine was small mah

when batteries goes under 30%, it starting alarm with sound. I suggest keep shooting till the drone come back home automatically with minimum power if you can wait
It helps you can shoot longer time and can make battries discharged quickly

02 charging time was about an hour

have fun with your inspire! And congrats

I've seen some pretty awesome footage on this thread. If I can sell some of my unused equipment (Raptor Steadicam), I'll be buying one of these right away. Thanks for everyone's footage and feedback!

The whites seem to clip real easy. Like starting at :48

Would love to see a scope screen shot of that frame. My Hero4 Black / Phantom2 could do that shot in ProTune, -1EV, Flat with no clipping. DR was the biggest upgrade from the Hero 3+ IMHO. Haven't tested the Inspire yet - waiting for the recall fix to keep the props on during rapid descent :-0

You get spoiled with Dragon DR . . . everything else seems like a cheap substitute

here is quick dirty cut of my inspire
'right out of box' setting / no cam setting
no stabil./ some grading / first cut heavily graded

I'm sorry, I'm just SO not impressed... It looks blown out, compressed and essentially exactly like a gopro on flat mode, no fisheye. It's nice for the hobbyist, but no way would that footage fly for 99% of our clients.
