  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DJI Focus - *OWNER'S THREAD*

I only used a bartech in the past and I didn't set it up, so I don't know much about wireless FF. Can anyone tell me if you can set these up with continuous turning? I own a canon ef 50mm f1.0 and ef 85 1.2 and they really don't have hard stops. Even if you setup hard stops, turn the focus backwards and forwards a few times and the markings are way out. So I guess they can only be focused off a monitor. But need the continuous turning to do this.

cheers paul

yes you can reverse the direction.
i know there are solutions to swing the motor, put it on top rails (if you have that),... but its just easier to give right angle cables instead of normal ones or make a connector on the side and not the bottom of motor,... RT motions motors and right angle cables make everything so neat and tidy,... what assistants want :P

Paul, you need to set the hard stops (havent tried it yet with DJI, but it has manual calibration possible in the menu) to just that short fraction throw that 85 lens has and not go past that point as its goes into the void :)

It's a six pin cable on the Lemo side. My advice would be to cut the cable on the on tap side and extend it, it's not like an industry standard 2 pin.

not to say it's impossible to make one, but six pin at this size is hard(er) to solder.

$120 for 24" right angle Ptap cable? That's not pricy at all. Just ordered a couple. Media Blackout makes world class cables.

My unit just came in yesterday and was wondering if the slight robotic humming noise from the motor is something your all experiencing. It sounds like most brushless motors I've heard so I'm assuming its fine but its a little annoying.

All defaults at medium. Tried lower settings and get the same humming noise. It's Audible from a couple feet a way which would be a problem when it comes to recording sound in quiet environments. I'll reach out to the seller and see what the deal is .... Maybe just get another unit.

Try taking it off defaults with everything at High settings.

i just keep it on high all the time.

jens, on High it's pretty powerful, have used it with summicron Cs, various super speed sets, Ultra Primes, and some Kowa anamorphics. I haven't used Hawks so don't know.

Hi Guys,
can anyone answer me a question about the unit working with photo lens with small focus rotations, specifically sigma art lens. Will the unit expand the rotation to be more usable or would it be quarter a turn of the knob is from close to infinity.

Cheers
Ian

Thanks Dan, by much ?

I believe you can map the lens to the entire rotation of the focus knob if you so desire.
