  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DJI Focus - *OWNER'S THREAD*

I just ordered the 90 degree cable. Thank you for the heads up. If they still use the same weird Ptap connector all you have to do is take a knife to it, cut down that little "key" and if you have to, you can shave down the walls of the plastic connector. Not a big deal.
Or, like I'll be doing, changing the connector out for a Safety:

where did you guys find the 90 degree cable? I cant find it on the DJI site.

Hello everyone,

Im thinking about buying a DJI Wireless Follow Focus but I would like to rent a unit first, before purchasing.

I'm shooting a project starting on the 9th and going to the 16th and I think it'll be a perfect chance to run it through its paces. Is there anyone in LA who is interested in renting their unit out to a fellow Reduser for that week?

I always like trading gear favors for gear favors but if you would rather just have cash feel free to name your price! Thanks!

Just called. Thanks Dan!

Curious on your thoughts of DJI as a company.

From our experience with one of the drones there customer support is awful, as is the case with most companies from China in my experience.

Would like to hear some feedback, perhaps the possibility it being an isolated incident. The drone worked really great, some of the only footage of the Buddhist temples above 15,000 feet that I've heard of.

I just bought one of these but I'm looking to power it off of a red quickplate back and use Lemo instead of Dtap. Has anyone done this? What's the pin configuration?

Took the plunge and bought a DJI FF. It's nice to see they followed some of our recommendations and improved the antenna and now offer rt angle lemo. My AC digs the rig. I love it for the size and weight and general response. However, the 15mm clamp is the same. Has anyone tried the extended clamp offered on their site? Is it any more secure. As I only use this for gimbal work, I currently mount the DJI clamp to a 15mm rod that's attached to a 15mm / Nato clamp attached to camera via nato rail. So for lens changes I just loosen the 15mm / Nato clamp and never touch the DJI clamp for the rest of the day. If anyone has a better clamp solution, do tell.

Has anyone ever encountered this issue: you rack quickly in one direction and then suddenly stop and rack in the other direction and the motor can't do it and jumps calibration, stopping somewhere in the middle and you have to recalibrate. Not that you would need to be able to change directions on a dime like that very often, but I've done it just to check calibration and it's pretty annoying. Its happened consistently over several days in various temperatures, the only weird thing is it was only an issue while shooting Amira, not on our Dragon setup. Which leads me to believe it could be a power issue?

are the provided D-tap connectors a bit thicker then normal? they dont fit into my IDX battery plate dtap. i will have to sand them down by just a bit i think

got my DJI Focus and used it on a short film. Good product for the price! but can DJI employ someone with "on set" experience, most likely a 1ac,... putting a straight cable at the bottom of the motor is a big mistake, it always hits something. You hit a dovetail or when using a ricebag for low shots the camera rests on the cable,... not a good solution... we will need some thirdparty cables to at least help with the problem.

They have right angle cables on the dji webstore.

You could also top mount the motor on a top rod, or sling the motor gears under the lens with the motor sticking out right or left. Not always a perfect solution but camera assistants have been doing that since the invention of the wireless FF.

Have they upgraded the firmware so that it retains the calibration in between power-offs?
I've been holding off buying one until they fix that...
