  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DJI Focus - *OWNER'S THREAD*

Great tips Dan. Thanks for posting. Also, thanks for the detailed response on your thoughts with the motor ergonomics and such.

Wonder if DJI can make some 90 degree custom cables? That seems to be my only beef with this system is motor connection. I'll reach out to them to see what I can find out.

Thanks again,

Alex

90 degree cables will be made available soon.

90 degree cable is important, certain types of mounting will encounter a problem with just the straight cable.

Another important note for anybody hoping to open the box and use right away.... The P-tap style power connector (to power the motor) has a DJI modified P-tap that has an extra dimple in the connector which makes it incompatible with many if not most P-tap power-out female receptacles. The Ronin products have this modified P-tap female power "out" on the sled but if you want to use it outside of DJI universe you need to modify something. Its not a tough mod, I did it in about 5 minutes by taking apart the connector and filing off the dimple.

hmm.
Mine just arrived maybe its a change in production. I tried it with a standard AB battery and the connector would not fit and thats when I discovered the key-way tab and did the mod. The picture attached is the P-tap port on our Ronin and shows the dimple (key) between the 2 connections. I cant show the other side from the new motor power cable as its now filed off but it fits that key-way, and therefor does not fit a standard P-tap (or at least mine was shipped that way).

The unit I had for testing did have normal Ptap connectors. Unfortunately the unit I purchased has those weird Ptaps on their cables. I alerted DJI. It's not too hard to get rid of those ridges, but it shouldn't have to happen...

To those having an issue with their P-Tap cables (mine didn't have a problem) - you should be able to trim the extra stud that is inside the p tap connector with a diagonal wire cutter to make it fit more p tap ports.

Sorry didn't see this thread and I posted in another DJI Focus thread... I chiseled the tab off and it still wouldn't fit. It was like the whole "square side" of the p tap was to big. I had to hack another p tap to make it all work... very annoying.

It's a special 6 pin Lemo.

That 2 pin lemo you linked to will not work.

I'm sure it won't be long before they have right angles. They have extension brackets and other goodies too already:

Personally, I'd like to see an entire spare motor... I'm sure it won't be too long before they are available.

Thanks Dan... I had the cinegears but was not happy with it in the end, too many issues. looking forward to trying this unit out.

90 degree cables should be available within the next few days.
