Interesting

nice article and some good info, thanks

I am curious. With a new mac pro in the, hopefully, near future and thunderbolt built in. How will this technology change things for you? Can you use the added speed of thunderbolt, or is eSata sufficient?

Cool write up!

Thanks Von.

SAS is still the fastest. i don't see a reason for Apple to implement T-bolt in a MacPro because SAS is still faster and more robust than T-bolt. Your bottleneck at that point is still your camera media.

Hey that's very good Von! I have the Bigfoot Mac-N-Rac mobile cart, it's a tad bigger than the standard cart, but fits my dual 27" Doublesight monitors better. Very well written Von, thank you.

Will,

Thunderbolt will be more useful for connecting things other than drives. Things like a Thunderbolt Red Rocket or Thunderbolt QIO or Thunderbolt MXO. Thunderbolt drives will be useful for some, but SAS and Sata/eSata are perfect for storage and will continue to be the standard for high end work. Current 6G Sata can do 600MB/s, Thunderbolt is 1000MB/s and SAS is 2400MB/s, but normal spinning drives are still under 200MB/s. Connect a 150MB/s drive to SAS and it will still only do 150MB/s. We need raids and solid state drives to fully take advantage of current speeds.

Good Article Von, I hope to see you at nab. It's really important for D.I.T.s to own and configure their systems themselves. That way they know the system inside and out and can quickly detect and correct any issues that pop up. Yeah, custom carts are the way to go.

Hey Von,

Great article thanks for the hint on apple ram upgrades ....i was wondering why it was so expensive......... I now have alternate solution.
