Went searching all over but this apparently isn't an easy thing to search for. The RED 5" touchscreen display on the scarlet that we have on a job is occasionally having a color tint that I believe is somehow coming from the sensor. The RAW image looks fine when you toggle it but the ISO corrected is what is off. We were shooting for most of the day yesterday and it was fine and then at some point it went "purple or magenta" I didn't see it but that's what I was told. Then about 20 mins ago I saw that it had a green tint. Again RAW looks fine so we weren't too worried about the RAW files and since the files from yesterday look fine it seems okay. However this makes it rather difficult for the DP to deal with lighting.

Yesterday a power cycle seemed to fix the "purple/magenta" issue but it did not help today. What we ended up doing today was doing a factory reset, which then solved the issue. It seems like someone may have accidentally hit a setting and not known it. Saturation and tint seemed to be normal though so not sure what else they would have hit. Anyhow we are just trying to wrap our heads around the issue. We only have the rest of the day with this particular camera but it'd still be nice to figure out.

Sounds like you accidentally performed an auto white balance and it changed the tint value. Go the the advanced color temp dialog and double check. You can get there by double tapping the color temp on the top menu, pressing and holding on the color temp on the top menu or pressing UP when it is selected.

I had this issue as well recently, and it was driving me nuts trying to determine why my footage had a magenta tint although my white balance was apparently reset to daylight value. Finally figured out that when you perform an Auto White Balance, the tint remains even after resting the temperature value back to a standard range. To me, it's a problem that a Auto White Balance is performed by pressing one button (often by accident), but resetting the tint requires several steps to access somewhat hidden menu options. I wonder how many users would find a non-standard tint was being applied on their camera right now without knowing it was set that way. It seems like a useful feature would be a visual indication that the tint is set to a non-standard value, similar to the yellow numbers on the LCD indicating a discrepancy in frame rate or compression. In other words, yellow numbers on the color temp. readout when it's set to anything other than a preset?

That's very interesting. Unfortunately we did a factory reset and didn't have the problem the rest of the day. And since I was out of range of the internets I didn't see the replies until now and I no longer have the camera.

We were thinking that we had hit something and the color temp kept behaving oddly apparently. The camera is from a local rental house so maybe I can fiddle around with it later. It was odd because I was having issues downloading the redmag cards via shotput pro. Thinking maybe the number of "simultaneous files" setting has something to do with it. A straight drag and drop was quick as lighting (red station, esata and a g-raid 0 on esata) but shotput took at least an order of magnitude longer.

^non-sequitur sorry. I'm hoping to play around with both issues at the camera house sometime soon. The explanations make perfect sense so I'm just gonna assume that that is the reason.

Your tint value is stored as meta data so you should be able to easily confirm that was the case.
