I've just finished four days in Nara shooting the first part of a Discovery Channel show called Atlas Japan using our M-X Red One, for Papillon Magic (the production company), directed by Sang Yul Chang.

Here are four still captures (from the moving footage) to show the amazing capabilities and dynamic range of the Mysterium-X sensor in all sorts of lighting situations. Everything was shot on Canon EF lenses using the Birger/Viewfactor combo to drive them. Shot in 4KHD 23.98fps as it's destined for HDTV screens. Build 30.5.0 was used and all the images below are straight out of RedCine-X (build 256) and resized in Photoshop to 1920x1080 using Bi-cubic Sharper (click on the images to view them in that resolution).

I'll be shooting the next part of this documentary later this month. Until then, enjoy!

What was that deer shot on? Lens wise.
Beautiful work.
That shot was using my Canon EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM at around T5.6 and 3 stops of ND. ISO800 on camera.

Cheers!

Paul

This was taken with my Canon EOS 7D and EF24mm f/1.4L MkII USM, wide open (just posting it for fun!):

The camera was about 20cm from his (or her?) nose!

Enjoy!

Sick! These look like still photos, not video grabs.

I'm already jealous and/or envious as it is that you get to live and work in Japan doing what you love.....

Mind Blowing Quality

Mind Blowing Quality

Can't imagine the frame grab to be so good. Red Team Hat's off to your VISION and commitment to deliver such a revolutionary product.

Looks great, Paul! :-)

Been climbing mountains the last few days and filming an amazing samurai master. Here are a few more still captures from the Red footage. As before, shot at 4KHD on Mysterium-X with Canon EF lenses and Birger mount. The amount of dynamic range coupled with the high resolution is astonishing! All filmed at Redcode 28 no less! Anyone who's filmed in a forest knows how much dynamic range you need to have to hold both highlights and shadows. Red M-X accomplished it with ease and allowed me to choose my T-stop and shutter angle for creative control vs needing wide open aperture at 1/50th to gather enough light....

Amazing...
I hope that RED Scarlet Fixed can do (almost) the same IQ.
Can you (if you are allowed) just post a Full Size image of the first deer ?
Thanks

Please let us know when this show is going to run!
Beautiful work Paul
As always, I'm a fan.

Great work. Love the lighting on the last fellow sitting on a rock in the woods.

Great Paul. What shutter speed did you use for the sword shoot?

Paul

Gorgeous! I particularly love the sunset shot and the man sitting on the rock. I can't wait to see this program.

stills are very nice. Any chance of an enlarged version of a couple of them?

Later,
Jason

Some nice work for sure... Do you notice much quality
difference inbetween Canon zooms and primes ?...and
are certain primes sizes sharper than others..?
