Dirty audio over HDSDI problem

Epic FW 3.314

Playback of audio over HDSDI has a terrible interference type sound through it and is totally unusable even for just playback.
Ive tried on several audio equipped monitors and it is the same.
Headphone playback is ok.

Anybody got any ideas about how to remedy this?

Well i seem to have solved the audio issue. It seems the embedded audio doesn't playback well on the Panasonic BTLH1760 series of broadcast monitors.
I tested the audio with three different Panasonic monitors and they all exhibited the distorted HDSDI audio playback.

I played the same signal into a JVC DT HDSDI monitor and also a Sony, and the embedded audio played very cleanly and without any distortion/interference.
Hopefully this helps someone here and Panasonic will address the issue.

Nino, I used the HD-SDI embedded audio several times with a camwave and panasonic 1710 without problems...the tiny speakers of the pana 17 monitors are crap though...

I have this same problem. It used to work fine with the RED One but the Epic has had distorted, crunchy and bad audio over HD-SDI to the same Panasonic 1710 since day one. Has anyone found a fix for this? I tried an Epic and a Scarlet and both sounded bad. Yet, they sound fine into a Flanders. Any answers RED???

I've had this problem with both Epic and Scarlet, on two different Panasonic 1710's. Come on RED, what's going on here? This is the most common monitor in the industry.

Yep, I've heard the same problem on the Panasonic 1710 monitors. Zero problems with audio playback from Alexa via HD-SDI. Having said that, the speakers in the Panasonic and JVC flat monitors are so awful anyway, I'm not sure what you can use them for beyond just judging actors' performance.

Yes, and the earphones have the same distortion as the speakers. I like plugging a Comtek transmitter into the monitor, but not with a RED and Panasonic combination.

Has anyone tried to connect your cam to a monitor that works as expected and throughput to the panasonic?

Yes, I've plugged an Epic into a TVLogic, looped through to the Panasonic 1710. TVLogic sounded fine, Panasonic sounded like garbage.

I suspect it is the meta data that is messing up the Panasonic. I looked in the manual and Red sends some additional meta data along the line. It's possible that the Panasonic decoders are reading some of that metadata as audio and garbling the output. Sounds like a Panasonic issue rather than Red.
