I am correct in saying that all it lets you do is see field of view and not depth of field also, correct? Any which way, it seems like a fair price for a tool that can really speed things up!

Matthew

Right. For depth of field you would need a Directors finder that you could mount the actual lens. These finders have real groundglasses in them which is what gives you your depth of field.

Also, who wants to run around with a finder and a set of lenses. You can keep this with you at all times. Lets say you are just strolling around and happen to come by a great location. You can pull out this finder and get an idea of what lenses you can use. Also not such a strain on the neck like the Mark 5

I have it and it works really well. Good for getting a quick framing and picking the right focal length.

And it's compact size let's you always carry it around without getting in the way.

Why on earth would you want to use a dinky little viewfinder like this when you can shoot away with a DSLR and record lens used, etc. in Metadata in the meantime and get actual depth of field?

Nikon D70 sensor specs: 23.7 x 15.5 mm
Red sensor spec: 24.4mm x 13.7mm

take away the look around and you're pretty damn close.

Make an action in photoshop and you're dead on.

Get your mirror marked and you're dead on also...

:)

A Director's Finder is handy, especially for those shooting with primes who don't have the experience to know what the frame is going to encompass, but I question whether or not a little red paint makes this device a, "Red" finder.

A really ideal "Red" finder would have frame-lines for all the resolutions of the Red sensor. Isn't the primary value of the finder to aid the Director in telling the AC which lens to put up?

Not saying it's not a good product, but unless I'm missing something, it's not really designed for Red.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo
