Hello,

I'm curious if anyone would look at using the Ikan MS21 (http://ikancorp.com/productdetail.php?id=783) as a directors monitor/follow focus monitor for use on a Ronin or Crane or StediCam?

Ikan listing it for around $2300, I've found it as low as $1700.

Thanks

Tom

I was recently testing the new 095W from TV Logic and was blown away.
Little above your target price - but it is full native broadcast HD (1920x1080), not another of those 1920x1200 PC-resolution types.
Colors are good enough for professional grading (and it support calibration HW).
But the best bit is the built-in HD-SDI to HDMI and HDMI to HD-SDI simultaneous converter.
That means you can feed it with SDI from RED and at the same time output HDMI to your recorder, or vice versa.
That alone saves few hundred bucks and a clutter of cables and need for more power supplies, etc...

I am getting one for the same exact purpose as you - Ronin's monitor for Director / DP to work in tandem with the 065W on the Ronin's handles. I am also making a custom bracket that will hold AND power the monitors and Paralinx receivers...

PS: it has a V-mount built into the back panel...

I looked at some of Orchid's by Marshall (ORCHID® OR-181) and they were honestly just way out of my range. What I was looking for was something big enough to allow me to get a good feel for framing and composition while the Operator did his thing. Wasn't planning on using for post nor did I expect it to be a true reference monitor.

If it's just for framing then get a cheap, basically disposable HDMI computer monitor and an SDI to HDMI converter, also cheap.
