I have yet to find a great copy other than one the direct tv website, you have to look at the video player on the right and choose "Held up?".

http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/index.jsp (who knows how long the link will work)

This was shot just after the new year, we used the old great western bank on the corner of wilshire and la cienega.

if you find a better version or one that will survive beyond direct tv's promotion cycle, please post.

enjoy

I knew this was shot on Red when I first saw it. Looks good.

this was a last minute job, i was actually booked to do that killers video, the one i posted a couple of weeks ago, and then this came up about two days before the shoot.

so, i went to vegas (drove with the lenses, sticks, head and of course my gear) and did the killers job, we wrapped at 2am and i had a 7am call in la for this the next morning. luckily i have some friends in vegas and after a bit of begging got one of them to actually drive the rented SUV back to LA while i slept. we arrived at the location about 20 minutes before my call.

we set up the cameras (actually two rented reds from clairmont, as my camera was not able to be at prep), and started to shoot. the first things we did was the first shots you see in the ad, and since i was just coming in, i had no idea what the ad was for (other than DTV). after we did about 3 hours of coverage of the actual robbery scene, we switched to the guys on the ground, and when i heard their lines for the first time,i broke out laughing and almost completely screwed up the take...there is a bunch of stuff missing from the cut, but as you can imagine shooting three hours of intense bank robbery stuff ala "Heat" with two cameras and explosions (which never made the cut), to have the spot be about the two guys on the ground talking about their DVR ( and they are much funnier in person) was a freaken riot...

hope you enjoy it, as i said there is a bunch of stuff missing from the ad that we shot, either it did not make it or it is in a longer cut...good times.

enjoy.

yup there were two set ups with explosions, but i did not see them in the :30 on the site, perhaps it played with the explosions on tv on grammy night...

does any one know who the actor is that plays the hold up guy in the direct tv commercial

from the callsheet people that played the characters of "bank robber" - all four guys in this order, which maybe in order of importance or order in which they were booked or who knows..
