  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dine de Laurentiis has passed away

Very sad news. He did a lot for cinema and stuck by people even when they were out of favour. He was a great man (hard and abrupt, so I hear, but still great).

Dino was one of the greatest Italian and also Hollywood producers (produced more than 500 films,

and won two Oscars - one in 1956 for Federico Fellini's "La Strada," another in 1957 for "Nights of Cabiria).

No any more people like Dino de Laurentis or Carlo Ponti in Italy...

Also I'm pretty worry about Italy today, lost of identity and any fresh idea as the same like my fellow Austrians.

The same like in almost all European countries: Meeting always a sort of confused bourgeoisie only.

In all the obituaries I've seen online, they keep forgetting to mention one film... BLUE VELVET. I couldn't figure out why - but then I see it's not listed on his imdb credits eventhough it's credited to his production company.

The significance of this film to him is that he deserves supreme credit in this case for giving David Lynch total creative control and ending up with what is truly a masterpiece as a result. Yes, he did the flop Dune, but after that he didn't abandon Lynch - he stuck by him and said "That wasn't right for you, let's do something that is right for you."

Now THAT is the moment of his life for which I tip my hat and that would be what I wish I were to see in his obituaries.

The other notable fact about his career I think is just that he did so many movies and many, true, were not good, but some still survive today as important films and this simply points out the value of making things happen.

Sadly I feel the same.
