1. What is the differens betwen the fixed and interchangeable scarlet exept the zoom ability and change lenses? By zoom i mean elektronicly zoom I guess you can always stick an telephoto lens on it and zoom manully. Then of corse the flybywire feature of the fixed. Every scarlet does autofocus as I understand.

2. Recording media. How long can you film on a 16g cf card in 3k redcode 100? is 16 the biggest card? what is the gig/minute of redcode 100 at 3k?

3. Say I would like to have my final output as 720p 50fps. Can i record 3k 50fps and just scale it down in post to 720p? I dont think the picture should be a problem since in can do 120fps continues but how about the audio?

Ok I found that every scarlet can autofocus and that i could not use redcode 100 with cf cards due to datarates.

Anyone?
1.I just want to know so i dont miss any features. I still dont know if im going with the fixed or interchangeable. Lean toward the fixed since im aiming for the S35 some day later.

3.what about the sound if you want to shoot 3k 50p to downscale to 720p?

Hi Joel, I'll give these questions a shot.

1.) Really the only difference I see between the fixed and cinema 2/3" Scarlets is cost and the ability to change lenses. I say cost because there is no way you are going to find another 8x 2/3" electronic zoom and put a kit together for $4,750. Technically you could put an electronic Nikon, Canon or RED mount on and have the same fly by wire functionality but of course you would be dealing with the massive 3.56 crop factor. RED has not announced any 'fly by wire' features for the 8x fixed lens Scarlet that aren't available in the Cinema brain as well.

3.) I'm not quite sure what your question is. If you downscale 3k footage to 720p the sound will not be affected at all.

Are you sure that all Scarlets can autofocus? If so, would you please preovide the reference?

Thanks.

Dare I ask if you were reading posts about image noise and maybe confused it with sound noise? As Justin said, sound is not affected by changing the resolution of the final footage.

Let's go back to #5, "Touch Focus Tracking". So with the RED touchscreen LCD, I can just touch with my finger where I want it to focus on? And how's the tracking work, it will track what I touch while something is moving? That sounds pretty incredible! :yikes:

From Jarred:

Touch to lock focus... if she has a face, you can use face tracking, or if not you can use the traditional focus points.

Coming from hvx200 you shoot 50p 25 pn you get slowmo but no sound. If you shot 50 fps progressiv without pn you get the sound. If you shot 40fps you get no sound and slowmo. So depending on the format you can get sound or not. Im not sure wich format that is above 1080p. I thought if im unlucky scarlet would not support recording the sound at specific framerates. I hope you can record 3k at 50fps and it sounds like normal speed.

Thanks Justin for answering question 1.
