Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
There is the same amount of grain. But that grain will be tighter.
Mostly I don't think it matters, but for a filmout, I think it does. But for most projects, I don't think you should break over backwards to shoot 36. There are many variables, compression being just one.
I shot a 2K test that definitely looked better in Redcode36. Less noise in the shadows. Given that 2k is not the camera's strongest suit, I would recommend Redcode36 when you have to shoot in this mode.
we made a exposure bracketing in tungsten and daylight with graycard and colorchart 4 stops up and 5 stops down. First we saw that the noise is most present at a normal 18 percent gray. rated the cam at 250 ISO we saw at daylight one stop over looks normal in tungsten it got over. with recode36 the noise is more grain like then in recode28. we will see what happens with build 16... think there could be also in the debayering from redalert/redline and redcine done more quality research from red. if the debayering would be a step better we will also get less noise.... it looks now good with 36 but think it could look a step better.... ask the Iridas Guys.... they know very good to handle wavelet codecs....
