On DSMC I understood the concept of black shading (for anyone who needs a refresher, Mark Pederson's post explains it very well: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...ummies-amp-Experts&highlight=auto+black+shade)

Now, on DSMC2 with my Epic-W there is the option of "Auto" or "Manual". Manual seems to be the same as it was on DSMC, but can someone explain what the "Auto" mode does? Also, I'd love to hear what you guys use now between Auto and Manual.

Auto will go create maps for several shutters speeds for you you automatically. Its takes longer but its handy to not have to create them on the fly when doing different frame rates.

Exactly. The first full day I had my camera, I didn't shoot a thing with it. I did all my blackshading, LUT ingest, monitor mapping, etc. Definitely put it first on your list of things to do when you get your camera so once you start shooting, you'll be unencumbered.

If you find yourself in a situation where your AUTO blackshade isn't cutting it, then you can do a quick manual blackshade and be on your way.

Does auto black shading work well if the temperature changes?
For example, if I auto black shade at home at 27 Celsius, and the next day I'm filming outside at 1 pm at 45 Celsius, do I have to black shade again? (Like Epic Dragon)

Yes it is best to recalibrate.
