On July 27 and 28 in the Recon accessories thread, some Redusers other than myself finally noticed that there might be a problem in wiring the Epic with all the accessories Red management has designed for it. Instead of answering the questions, the thread was closed down. Jarred, stop hiding in there. We know you're there. You're surrounded. Come out and answer the questions.

I can't imagine that this thread has much of a lifespan, but...

Tim, I think the last thread was wrapped up pretty well. If I recall, your biggest concern was that the use of the BACKPACK system and the Wedge would complicate the use of additional modules. And I think everyone agreed with you. It could do that if one stacked on a few modules and then added the wedge and shoulder plate to the back - it would put all of the weight forward of one's shoulder.

But:
1) the BACKPACK doesn't require the wedge and in fact offers additional functionality in and of itself
2) you don't have to use it. You can use the CLUTCH or any number of third party options. And those can be used - in my opinion - without any difficulty attaching rear modules.
3) plenty of people want to work in very light setups, without rear modules. For this, the BACKPACK, wedge, and shoulder plate are excellent options.

So, really, unless I'm really missing something in that you have discovered a serious electric fault with the camera, this is a non-issue. Or at worst, a simple case of cable management. The BACKPACK, the WEDGE, heck - any accessory - is an option. If it proves troublesome for you, don't use it.

As to the nonexistent rear modules that RED has shown before in renders and pictures - I believe we have every indication that they are in fact in production and headed to us soon. Remember that the camera that they are intended for - the Epic-X - hasn't even begun to ship yet.

hehehe :)

ROFLMAO!!!!!

this is the best reply in history

LOL - Hey Tim, you gotta admit ... it's better than a ban :)

can i use the backpack and backpack quickplate with the clutch?

of course you can :)

this is in the lowest position..

remember, the backpack has detents in it as well so you can lower and raise the wedge or other accessory and lock it in to whatever height you want for clearance or fit.

here is about half way up.

I would love to get my hands on a clutch shoulder pad. Hopefully we'll see them in the store soon :-).

Jarred you are the best. Keep it up.

Hey Jarred. Any chance we'll ever see a right angle power connector, maybe coming up at about 1.30 or 2 o'clock, as you look at the back of the camera.
The wedge shoulder pad looks like a real cable killer by the time someone's collarbone starts working away at it.
In general use, I reckon I'd be better off with one as well.
I'm already starting to get nervous about my first adapter cable, after just a couple of month's careful use (the black plastic stiffener is coming off).
