  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'm wondering what size of filters (if any) will fit into the screw in threads of the RED Pro Primes. I've noticed that the front of the lenses are threaded just don't know what diameter of filters would work with these.
 
Its good to keep a UV protector on them. Plus a 105mm Optical flat is cheaper than a 4x5 or 6x6.

But sometimes it is helpful to get more weight off the camera with a Screw-in filter than using a mattebox.
 
One of my favorite filters to keep on the lens at all times is the B+W 105mm UV Haze 010 (MRC) Multi-Resistant Coating Glass Filter.

BUt at times is best if removed to avoid having to much extra glass in front of your lens, especially when adding a three stage MB to it, but at times even then, I'll leave the UV Haze on it, as it does make a difference, unless you have a Polarizer or any other of your filters in use are also UV Haze.

Also even so they are a bit more expensive, and they are not always needed, I prefer to use the Slim ones, to note that they do not have a front thread to mount a second filter n them, but you can always mount it last.


Btw Andrae, since you are in Humidity world, do you use a filter on the 18-85?

Shawn, screw in filters, are a good choice even in Cine Glass, think of the ultimate hand held and run and gun, with out an MB, but with the need for a particular filter, for me is more a reason of having the lens protected at all times, as you know that even the best manufactured lenses, do have better protection form Dust particles and humidity when a front filter is screw on them, and this is particularly the case with the Canon "L" series glass, advertised to be all weather resistant, but only when a front filter is screw on them.

Ketch we haven't gotten our 18-85 as of yet... looking forward to one soon after getting the RED Rocket. You guys bring so much knowledge to this forum and I'm glad to be a part of this helpful community. I will look into the 105mm UV Haze filter you mentioned Ketch. Mostly thinking of it for protection, light weight usage in hand held mode. Will order some of the B&W 105mm ND's too.
 
138mm, but that won't do you any good because no one manufactures 138mm filters with threads.
