Mixed in with Jim's pics is this DSLR configuration:

and

From what I can tell this rig includes the following:
  1. Scarlet FF35 Brain
  2. RED Electronic Lens
  3. RED Grips (vertical and portrait) which house batteries
  4. RED Bomb Viewfinder
  5. REDmote acting as a camera back
  6. A recording module

Could someone from RED verify/correct this list? This configuration looks extremely interesting to me as a landscape camera that would deliver Digital Medium Format quality or better.

Are there plans to offer Scarlet in higher resolution? Moving to an Epic module for higher res would mean switching lens mounts for the 60 Mpx module, no?

Do the Scarlet and Epic modules have AA (antialiasing) filters (like DSLR's) or not (like Digital Medium Format Backs)?

Thanks!

You have the configuration correct. We believe in IF/low pass filters with all modules. You can set up any "brain" with these accessories, although lens mounts should be chosen to match the sensor size.

Thanks for the quick response Jim. I am going to be blogging about this and want to get my facts straight. I am a landscape/architectural photographer (among many other things) and I was looking to a Digital Medium Format system as a next step. With this announcement, I will have to seriously consider this as an option once I have some actual photos from a production system available to study and compare. The DSMC sounds like it is the answer to my prayers, but I am going to have to withhold judgement till I see some actual output. Considering the quality of the RED One, I have little doubt that you guys will amaze us yet again.

Lenses: Will there be tilt/shift lenses available for this system?

Portability: what is the approximate weight of the above configured system?

Regarding autofocus: what kind of speed does the autofocus system have? Can it track single/multiple moving objects? I ask this as I would be replacing a large chunk of my gear with your system and I have to be able to cover the odd sporting event now and then (which I cannot reasonably do with a MF system).

More details soon...

Jim

How do I get to beta test that config sir? I have quite a bit of experience in beta testing and always sign and honor NDAs.

We are all beta testers in here - happily! (Most of us - I might add).
There was a lot that was beta on my Red when I received it in January.
Some still is.
But I was able to work with it from day one.

I could have waited for build 16. Would have missed a lot of fun (and money).

What will the weight on this kind of configuration be?

This config looks so cool. Watching RED evolve into this just puts a smile on my face.

I hope it didn't get lost in the wake, but where/how will a flash unit mount?

Anyone know if there are plans for a flash?

Just a suggestion to RED, but to keep the integrity of the unit, perhaps a bracket with a grip and an off-set flash unit would be a solution.

Also, please enable the brain with Flash Exposure Lock. (FEL)

Love you guys. Heh Heh

Thanks for posting the other questions I had guys.

Flash: where does one mount the flash unit and is RED planning on releasing one? Would it be controlled by the REDmote? Will it have flash exposure lock (as previously mentioned) and flash exposure compensation?

ISO Sensitivity: What is the range of this configuration? Will it have AutoISO shifting? How clean are the images at high ISO settings?

I would love to see a picture of this unit next to a Canon/Nikon Pro DSLR and Digital Medium Format system (Mamiya or Hasselblad) for a size comparison.
