So Ted asked me to come by and visit Redcamp last week. I brought my 5 year old son so he can continue to be inspired by the industry we work in and while I was walking through the backlot with Ted we ran into Desi Arnaz, Jr. He was there shooting something but took the time to chit chat with Ted and I about a lot of his personal memories of being on the lot back in the day. It was particularly nice for my son because he recalled being my sons age/ size when his parents acquired the stages and harkened back to his early days, " running around the lot" and playing and having a great time. He pointed out where his dad's office was and told us stories about this and that show being shot there and people coming in and out. It was like the buildings and common areas were coming alive, you could just picture these people walking by where we were standing. It was quite a moment and I wanted to publically thank Ted for including me and my son in that moment. As a child of the 60's the amount of content that came out of that block of hollywood certainly influenced me in a significant way and it was a dream come true to actually physically connect with that time and those people through Desi and his stories.

If you ever get a chance to go to RSH, do it, but make sure you google all the shows that were made there so you can truly appreciate the history.

Thank you Jim for buying RSH and Ted for having us there.

That WOULD have been a treat! Grew up in the '60's myself, so I can relate. Thanks for sharing.

The lot definitely has a cool feel to it. As you said Dino, you can definitely sense all of the history. Their little apartments right there on the lot. If time travel becomes possible someday, I will travel back to various eras of film history just to experience the movie and TV sets. :-)

That is a great story. There are some plaques around the Red lot from the former owners, Ren-Mar Studios, commemorating the days of "Desilu Cahuenga" in the 1950s and 1960s. Some amazing history in that neighborhood.

has anyone ever noticed the abby singer plaque at sunset gower over nearish the newer parking structure ? this is such a fun business , with a very storied history .
potsie webber from happy days used to direct shows at ren mar when we were doing arliss there. that always make me smile and think about my childhood.

Are we able to just drop by for a tour?

Who is Desi Arnaz ?

This question made me stop and think... not judgmentally, but to ponder fame. Is the path to universal fame through the movie forest, or the business forest?... or even the spiritual forest? Is the world small enough to accommodate universal fame yet?

Sorry, just thinking out loud.

My daughter watched Who Framed Roger Rabbit the other night and she got a kick out of Bob Hoskins' stroll through the studio "alley", past a couple of the doors she had been going in and out of all week as well as the glimpse of the front gate. She asked me if they painted it yellow for the Roger Rabbit movie. :)

Being there for week two was fun. Where else can kids go to camp and potentially bump into celebrities like this, many of them are completely unknown to these kids, even to the older ones at camp. Aside from various cast of the Liberace film shooting at RSH, there was Desi Arnaz Jr., Barbara Walters, Florence Henderson, Matt Damon....

Most of the kids were oblivious to it all. Some of the 14~15 year olds incorporated the subject of Matt Damon's presence into one of their little short films.
