Really? That's insane. For a collimation device not too leave the factory in a perfect condition really, really does not bode well.Have an experienced lens tech measure it out for you before trusting it. I know someone who got three and they were all off (quite a lot).

I like the concept. But for even one too leave the factory and be out when they're claiming it gets you within 1 micron makes the thing wholey unreliable. What's the use of a collimating device that requires you too check it's collimation?Exactly - but they eventually got it right and it's a really nice piece of gear. A bit on the expensive side, though.
I'm pretty sure that there is a mistake in the specs- the scale shows .01mm precision which is 10 microns as 1 micron is .001mm. So it looks like the unit was 70 microns of and 50 microns off, respectively. Just think about it -human hair on average is 30 microns...I'm the one Tony mentioned.
The Danish importer recieved 3 units and I got the second one delivered.
When I tested it, it was showing as all my cameras was off by +7 micron!
Took me half an hour to realise my collimation was correct, and that the FDC was off.
I set up an appointment with the Danish distributer, and tested the third one, which was still at his shop.
That unit was showing +5 micron.
All three units were sent back to Denz.
When they came back and I tested, two were within 1 micron, but the last was now at -3 microns.
My own unit was one of the units that was now spot on, fortunately
We have been using this for about 3 weeks now, and I must admit that it greatly dimishes the time needed for camera check up, and the job of collimating the cameras prior to sending it out can now be trusted to others, as it's now very intuitive.
And the finish and mechanical construction is very very good.
(Im Still checking the FDC often to be sure it's keeping it's calibration)
One worrysome thing about using this tool is that you realize how much the image centering varies from camera to camera...
?
There is a set complete with scope to check the Optimator calibration(so you don't have to send it back- easy enough to calibrate yourself) at Band Pro Munich. More coming soon..My bad, writen in a rush...you are correct +50, +70 and -30 microns.
The corrected units were spot on though

The Optimator does look very interesting especially for testing the properties of the chip seating.
Is there any demo units available?
I can imagine. Hopefully something that's improved on the epic...Having tried to match 3d with motion control, I can tell you it's a huge issue to some of us.
Looks like it works great. BTW, that sure is a fancy focus hook. Did it come with the cheese stick?
