Hi all,

I purchased (at a suggestion here on Reduser) the Dell U2711 monitor - It seems perfect for our purposes however the HDMI signal from the Red Camera brings up a "no signal" message and a black screen. We've also gone from HDMI to DVI with no solution.

The HDMI out works from the Red to another (far inferior) monitor and also from a laptop HDMI out to the Dell - ie: both work - but the Red Camera so far has yielded a black screen.

We have plugged both items in to the same mains to attempt to genlock/sync the signal - but no dice. And I feel like I've been through every menu option on both but maybe the answer is staring us in the face and we've blundered right past it.

Any suggestions from you guys would be gratefully accepted. Thanks.

James

Who recommended the 2711 for connection to a RED One?

The short answer is, it won't work. It's a nice monitor, but it only supports a handful of resolutions and timings. Chalk this one up on the same list as all the other 30" and 27" LCDs on the market that don't work with anything other than a computer with appropriate connection and drivers.

I did. It was a discussion about new Apple's 27" monitor and I pointed out that Dell version offers better features. I did not state that I tested it, merely suggested that it might be worth to check out and I sincerely apologize to James if this was misleading. We are connecting our Red One to various monitors, and monitor compatibility was a very rare issue. We got a "no signal" couple of times on Dell 2408 and after few attempts picture appeared and later it turned out HDMI cable was unreliable, at least for Red One, because it worked with other sources.

I wasn't aware monitor connection was still an issue with Red One, especially with latest builds and new monitor models.

James, you might want to check Dell's 10 bit matte version. It will also have wider gamut then Apple's LED backlit version.

Although if you are stepping in that size teritory, 32" 1920x1080 TV panel might be a better choice.

this is not a monitor connection or handshake issue. It is a "monitor only supports a couple resolutions" issue. Like it's 30" Dell predecessor as well as the Apple, HP, Samsung and LG 30" and 27" displays, the Dell 2711 only accepts specific resolutions and timings. You will find that the 2408 and most all Dell 24", 20", etc.. models actually support MORE resolutions than the 2711.

The 2711 is an awesome monitor when connected to a PC or Mac with a proper video card to drive it at full resolution. You're not going to drive the monitor from a RED one or most other video output devices. Just the way it is.

FWIW, I often use a Dell 2007WFP 20" via HDMI from the RED One and that works well.

We recently had our camera on set, on which this monitor was working fine connected through Blackmagic converter.

My colleague just informed me.
