Hi,
Can someone describe me the delivery process from the moment I got the email from Red to taking delivery? Especially to European union.
Thank you very much..I'm a bit confused with this.

Any tips for cheaper duty are welcome !!! :)

Ales

DO NOT take the amount that Fedex quote to you! It will always be too high. You can negotiate by telling them the TARIC codes of the different things in your shipment.

I did this and was able to get my shipment duty free.

Got my red one week ago... French customs allowed it duty free, in accordance with TARIC, it being a digital camera, not a video camera. VAT as the only thing I had to pay for. Just make sure they get that point, since others had to pay heavy taxes.

thanks buhot
did you fill some forms yourself, or just talked to the shipment company, and did you have any shipment insurance or its also the one provided by the shipment company and final question ( sorry) how much was the cost

actually ! However, I had taken a look at the taric beforehand, and noticed digital cameras would bear no taxes at all (except vat). Code for digital cameras was 85258030(00). Accordingly, they applied a % rate, and I had nothing to do.. but agree.

Hi,

Be aware that the Customs & Excise can come back to you for at least 5 years if they think an error was made with the original classification. If you were to make a false declaration they can seize the camera and fine you as well.

Hi all,
there were earlier posts about this subject. I was rather shocked about reading 3200 euros; I remember distinctly that someone in Amsterdam said he only paid a couple of hundred, though he didn't make it very clear how they came to this sum, or whether the shipping costs were included, which probably wasn't the case

Yeah, Amsterdam,

VINCENT
Yeah, it breaks down like this:
it's legal to buy it, it's legal to
own it and, if you're the
proprietor of a hash bar, it's
legal to sell it. It's legal to
carry it, which doesn't really
matter 'cause -- get a load of this
-- if the cops stop you, it's
illegal for this to search you.
Searching you is a right that the
cops in Amsterdam don't have.

Amsterdam has its own rules! :clown2:

your mind is full of "do this".. "don't do this".. it is a mainstream machine in fact.. :help: hey jarred.. what about to convert stephen's application form (to mod) in his nick?.. "mainstream machine" should be fine.. unless you wish the best post cleaner.. there's no best!

I am very sure we were talking about cameras, eisenstein, and anyways, the times they are achanging in Amsterdam; nowadays the police does routine body searches, mostly for weapons though:biggrin:

I get my Red in France 3 weeks ago, and I had to pay 4,9% duty taxes. The argument "digital camera" versus "video camera" seems not to be enough to discuss the duty taxes...

Well this is going to be interesting and I should be able to add something when I've been through myself in the next week or so. There is no doubt that Customs and Excise will come up with a definitive classification for the Red camera but at the moment it is clearly not a video camera because it does not fit the 'television' format of pal rgb etc. It is not a film camera because it has no film. So to call it a digital camera is the only thing you can do. If you can get customs to accept that there will be no comeback later.

If it is a video camera recorder (8525809100) it is 4.9% rather than 12.5% if it had separate record inputs. So 4.9% isn't as bad as it might be but 0% for 8525803000 is even better.

I'll report back.

John

Got our RED this week, negotiated with FedEx also. Ended up with the Cam being classified as "still camera" with 0% and all accessories, except cables, lens and batteries were also 0%. I haven´t got the bill from FedEx yet, but we´ll pay only about 320 EUR for customs, plus VAT of course.

Frank

Thanx for all the comments, guys. Now I just have to hope that I'll success with definition of ,,digital camera,, !

That was what I meant! Can you say what the VAT in Germany amounted to, and the shipping itself?
