  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Delivery for Christie, Barco, Sony 4K...

By the time you get to the point where you really *need* a DCP, then someone else will be paying for it.

I'd be happy for someone to prove me wrong - but I don't know of a single festival that requires DCPs. They are exclusively used for wide-release Studio features. If you have a wide-release Studio feature, you are very very far from having to worry about how the DCP will be made. :)

Well "require" is one thing, I think the word is "offer".
I think this is going to change and rapidly with the dawn of 4K :shifty:. If 35mm projection becomes more rare at festivals, DCI will step in.

What kind of software creates DCPs? Compressionsoftware, "muxing", audio, subtitles and everything else... Is there any app that can do all this or is it just a bunch of software you have to put into a workflowpipeline?

The only software solution I know of at the moment is Qube Cinema's QubeMaster. There are some other hardware/software packages from companies like Doremi and Dolby. You also need a DCI compliant server to play back the package, and a DCI compliant screening room to know that it looks right. As I've said numerous times before, compiling a DCP that is acceptable as a delivery element is not for do it yourselfers.

That may be true, but there is no GOOD REASON for this.

In fact there are a lot of very good reasons to subvert this.

List two that aren't "because I want free stuff" and "because I don't want to pay anyone to do anything."
