  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Deleted thread?

It was here in off topic and it took Jim's "Bad Day" thread as a jumping off point to discuss other situations where we have missed on-off occasions. I talked about missing a wedding yesterday because the restaurant we went to was sllllloooooooowwwwww.

The Bad Day thread went away pretty early and I guess anything referencing that one went away as well.

It's just weird, I didn't even even mention anything Jim said. No message from the mod to explain the removal.

Let try to get this one deleted as well. I missed Jim's thread, what was it about?

P.S. the mods will not notify you if they delete your thread.

Probably Jim. This is his home's playground, where he trades his late night thoughts, not necessarily as record to posterity so we are only his guests :-) Nothing new to see here.

Which is strange. If a particular thread breaks some undefined rule, it does nothing to help users keep content in line with these undefined rules if you give those users no indication of the specific infringing action. A quick PM takes little time or effort.

Why? This forum is not a democracy, we are guests in the house of RED...

It being a democracy or not (what that even means in this context...) is not relevant.

It's like parenting. When my kid does something out of line with my rules, I don't simply discipline him and move on. I talk to him about what he did and why he isn't allowed to do it. This is for two reasons.

First, I want them to stop that behavior! So they need to know specifically what was at issue.

Second, because I have made it clear what what the issue was, they have no wiggle room on a repeated offense. So escalating discipline comes into play.

Essentially, it's in everybody's interest to make the reason for editing/deleting/banning clear.

Andrew you must have been on here long enough to know this behaviour.

The thread probably had nothing to do with your posting (since you didn't start the thread) and sure Jim or team decided that it was not important to keep the story in the limelight (where bloggers and new reporters can twist and spin the story).

Threads come off cause they get abused, misrepresent, offer hate or discrimination, or sometimes doesn't have to do with the company or products. Politics, religion, and other difference of opinions (where there isn't necessarily a right or wrong) often get taken off (not saying that your post did that).

Again, this site is not a democracy cause your not paying into the operation of it (you buy the products but you're not paying to be a member of this site...and thus the owners/moderators/and site runners have full control).

Sure Red will be reading various posts (positive and negative and gauge thoughts). Some topics however are simply not necessary to continue and get retracted (not by anyone's actions but merely the topic itself not simply due to banning or hiding anything). Some topics have nothing to do with the product, technology or company. Transparency of topics that matter (technology, industry, operation issues) is mainly what we should stay on top of.

This is the off topic sub forum. My thread had nothing controversial within it, outside of the most vague of references to the content of Jim's now deleted post (which a simple google cache search will turn up). It was simply a thread about times where you missed something that can't be repeated, prompted as much by Jim's thread as by my own story from this last Friday where I missed a wedding due to an unfathomably slow restaurant.

Again, the democracy talk is useless and makes no sense. I'm not challenging the merit of the particular moderators action, I'm saying I'd like to know what I did wrong to avoid it happening in the future. It's for my benefit and theirs for us to all understand instead of ninja deleting it and leave me wondering what exactly the problem was.

I know in some threads, the moderator does close a thread and give reason for it. Those threads stay alive but no longer permit postings. Not sure how many moderators there are and if they do it differently or have rules that they follow together.

I agree some threads simply disappear.

Andrew, you are taking this too personally. Jim is notorious for posting a thread about a random thought, and poof, as soon as it's posted.. it's gone. From the top of my head, he has started posts on Apple, Aspartame, and now missing a premiere and they vanish without explanation. I work at very odd hours and look forward to getting glimpses into Jims mind which typically begin very late.

I'm not taking it personal at all, I'm not even bothered by the removal of my thread! What I don't want to do is make another thread in the future that is apparently out of bounds. A simple PM with a "Hey, this is why I deleted your thread" aids in being able to properly participate in the forums within Reduser. As it stands, I have to simply guess at what the issue was.

If it doesn't have to do with RED and your name isn't Jim, theres a good chance it will be deleted. Even Jim's off topic threads get removed...

That is simply not true. The entire purpose of the off topic section is discuss things not related to Red :p Seriously, if your contention that there is a "good chance" that non-Red related posts will be deleted, why is the off topic section full of threads that have nothing to do with Red?
